  1. What did you get at the store? I got this. (Holds up item.) Will you solve this problem? I've got this! (Saves the day.) Speaking to a group of whippersnappers? I got this! (Is hip. Is with it.)
  2. Um. My husband served 2004-2010 and is cool with people being opposed to things he particularly likes. We don't get an extra vote because he chose to serve, nor is our opinion more important than anyone else's.
  3. It is certainly possible. It would never occur to mine that they would be teased either, but I think it is squarely within the realm of possibility.
  4. I can currently hear fireworks. It is 9:20 on June 30th. Also they are illegal in llinois.
  5. I think in that scenario, I would back away slowly. I wouldn't be apt to try to explain myself in that situation.
  6. WHY are there so many women who write that way? Not that there's anything wrong with it, just why did that become a very common handwriting style? Somebody probably actually knows the answer to that.
  7. For this very *specific* example, I think I would tell her in advance, and then implement the practice that "last time it took x-amount of time to get inside when it was time, so now we're going to start clean-up x-amount of time earlier so we can get in on time." But, having several children myself, I absolutely know that what works with one may very well not work for another.
  8. :thumbup1: I'm reading this with rapt attention (I missed it the first time around.) Woulda done the same thing.
  9. I kinda wish I hadn't clicked that. Good grief. I was shopping once and watched a tiny (like 3 year old) girl walk up to a woman and say "Do you know where my Mommy is?" And the woman looked at her and just said "No, I don't," and continued shopping. I stood there totally flummoxed. I almost laughed out loud it was so weird to me. So I went over and helped her. I guess I could have gotten myself beaten up while I was at it.
  10. I agree with this as well. You can lay down, there's no line in my experience so no time pressure, and most of all they take great pride in, and are very good at what they do.
  11. I have also heard doctors do it, but that's not something I've ever looked into. Because we have "a guy", who has been piercing for decades.
  12. If you have tattoo or piercing places that will let in minors with parents, I would highly recommend a reputable one of those. Piercing with a needle is very different and less traumatic (to the tissue) than a piercing gun.
  13. I feel like I am not going to express this very eloquently, but I'm going to attempt. Shirley Temple used to wear dresses that just barely covered her bum. Pippi Longstocking basically wore garters and underpants and a shirt. They were just not remotely sexually provocative, because well, little girls aren't. Little legs aren't. Little bellies aren't. But then a line gets crossed for me when the kids aren't just uncovered, or have bare parts, but that the costumes seem to TRY to sexualize their little square flat frames. I find nothing wrong with little folks in 2 piece bathing suits. Bare bellies, bare legs. When I was little, prepubescent girls would often just wear bottoms to the beach. But I do come across bathing suits that seem to try to mimic an adult female shape (basically mimicking the appearance of breasts), and that is where it starts to make me uncomfortable. I suppose it gets even more complicated for me when those girls DO develop the bodies of women, but are still children in our culture, and are made to appear sexually provocative. I guess it doesn't get hammered out as simply as "cover up" or "there's nothing wrong here", and it's just a gut feeling that I can't really impose on anyone else as a standard beyond myself and my children. ETA: I feel like this could be its own topic, and I don't mean to derail. I can move it. 14. I recommend the 48 hours episode. http://www.cbs.com/shows/48_hours/video/kWd0RETQhwhxAKc7lxHA0otD8u3strdv/death-by-text/
  15. I know there are posts on Recovering Grace about ALERT if you or your friend want to see what people who have left Gothard have to say about it. And it is part of IBLP, so if one wants to know where your money and support goes and to whom, they may want to look into the parent organization.
  16. Depends on how much cult involvement one wants I suppose. My recommendation is to stay away from handsy Bill Gothard and his ilk as much as possible.
  17. I'm sure it is against board rules. But it is such a half-hearted attempt at breaking them it probably has gone unreported. It's supposed to be ironic.
  18. There seems to be an intersection that gets blurred between "things I don't prefer to wear" and "things that are therefore not pants." Sometimes the distinction is made, but it is getting confusing to separate out the two.
  19. Is SpyCar the go-to source on making things shiny?
  20. Is it clear yet, OP? Go forth and shop! Take a flashlight and some calipers.
  21. But if you bring in athletic leggings, does that complicate the sheen issue? Or are those in a different category? Because those are often shiny, and it doesn't seem like athletic leggings are meant to be covered.
  22. I bought it when we were showing our house on his recommendation. Very shiny! And quick, too. ;)
  23. I am whole heartedly in the leggings are pants camp, and do not care how much cling anyone else's pants do or do not have. Tights have a crotch gusset I guess? Where's that popcorn emoji guy? These threads always go so well.
  24. I'm a big ol' scarlet A atheist, and found it about as provocative and chuckle worthy as oatmeal. I have enjoyed the primarily unicorn direction the thread has gone though.
