  1. And since the cultural sexualization of breasts was my point, that's why I linked an article about the cultural sexualization of breasts. Which didn't suffice because, it was about the cultural sexualization of breasts. Color me so confused, because there are people on this thread who have historically argued against the evolution of humans, who are agreeing that breasts are for 1) milk and 2) to attract males. So I think some of us are talking evolution, and some are talking a more design-based purpose. Meaning God designed breasts for babies and men? We can absolutely teach "true science" without teaching that breasts evolved for the purpose of making women attractive to men. Because we don't know that. We know that secondary sex characteristics signal fertility, but are we saying that beards grow to make men attractive to women? I mean, I guess there's the whole musky scent of pubic hair thing, but pubic hair seems to have fallen far out of favor as appealing from time to time, based on cultural trends. I'm not trying to moralize science (although I think telling little boys that in the manner the book did was ludicrous.
  2. And aside from the evolutionary considerations, telling pubescent boys that breasts are literally FOR them to look at and be attracted to seems a little problematic. There's a difference between telling a boy that many boys find breasts attractive, then giving them the 2 punch purpose of breasts being milk and for you to be attracted to.
  3. See I still disagree with the wording. I think socialization and culture make breasts desirable, and that has applied throughout history and cultures to different body parts no longer eroticized. We might like to look at breasts, but breasts do not develop because we like to look at them. I don't believe that is what they are "for" in a development sense. That's what we make them for, but not "why" they develop them...for boys to look at. http://www.iflscience.com/brain/no-you-re-not-hardwired-stare-women-s-breasts/
  4. But that's not what it says. It says it is one of two "reasons" girls have breasts. That's absurd. Girls don't develop breasts to make them attractive. If you really dig feet, that doesn't make them one of the reasons people have feet.
  5. Appreciating the motivations of atheists is not the same as bashing all Christians. I once put up a Facebook post appreciating my atheist and non-religious friends in my life, and it was literally the most popular post I've ever had. Not because people were like, aw how sweet, but because I was descended upon by religious folk who took it as a personal affront. But put up a "I'd like to thank you for your prayers," and it doesn't seem to inspire the same reaction. Go figure.
  6. I've got high hopes for the Purple bed. I thought maybe I would spring for a Purple pillow and see if I thought a whole mattress made of that would help.
  7. Don't forget about the sex trafficking now. Humans have no experience with crowds and momentary darkness.
  8. My DS 11 hasn't received any stupid commentary. But he's in only a few activities with homeschooled kids, so his exposure is pretty limited.
  9. I agree with this. She sounds far more mature about protecting her own mental health and crafting a life she can manage than I was at her age.
  10. I named my baby Violet. She's almost 13 now.
  11. I have a Prudence and a Comfort. ETA: ...and an Honor and a Noble (the boys).
  12. I had 2 who weren't speaking at that age. I found that utilizing EI was our best choice. The oldest had a crappy therapist, and I was young and didn't know my options. My youngest has had amazing therapists. My youngest started therapy quite early, and everyone thought he was just a little behind, and as it turns out he's still having quite a bit of trouble. I'm glad we got started.
  13. Amen. 4 exclusively nursed on demand babies. 4 immediately returning periods. Not holding out much hope for #5.
  14. They also left a sponge in me and had to reopen the incision in my 2nd c-section. While they were an excellent solution to get out a couple of transverse babies, I much prefer the alternative.
  15. I'm glad people have come along who actually needed more serious pain control after c-sections. I had referred pain that had me sobbing in a heap, infections (both urinary and incision), and as it turned out I had a reaction to morphine that had me tearing violently at my skin. My entire face peeled I'd torn it up so badly.
  16. I was picturing some amazing fingers-to-the-temples Svengali method I was unaware of.
  17. This is a real thing. http://journaltimes.com/business/local/ceo-explains-why-sc-johnson-hobbled-saran-wrap/article_55000b9a-88cb-5786-a36e-3835f1d820ce.html
  18. Seer Up. If you listen to commercials, that's how it is generally pronounced. https://youtu.be/z45ys7oJuCA I assume that's the more "neutral" pronunciation, maybe less regional. I don't know. Dictionaries list both pronunciations. When we did All About Spelling, the options for pronouncing Y were: as a consonant sound, and also short i, long i, and long e, but not as uh. I can't think of any other words where y would be pronounced that way.
  19. I felt that way with my first and second who were 21 months apart. After that I needed a fresh baby. They kept expiring.
  20. The Garth Brooks one? Unanswered Prayers? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I say mah-nnaise, while my DH actually pronounces the word mayonnaise with all the sounds. I fully understand that I'm not saying it correctly, and I'm okay with that. I do, however, get totally bent out of shape when people pronounce syrup as "surrup." This is why these things are in the irrational thread.
  22. I'm confused. Adverbs? I mean, there are adjectives that end in ly, but I don't feel like I hear people dropping the ending. Ugly would be Ug. Holy would be Ho. Now I'm kind of enjoying this game.
  23. Is "veg" even worse? I only hear it on British TV (telly)? :)
