  1. I missed the wars for Canadian and Australian independence.
  2. How many people die in those mass stabbings? What is their frequency in relation to our mass shootings? Why don't the unlawful in Europe or Australia have as many guns as they do in the United States?
  3. I am not sure what point you are making. I would not expect to be sued as I did not commit a negligent act. In fact, I would be surprised to sued. The example you give doesn't really show us anything as we don't know what negligent act that family claims occurred. (Note: the fact the driver who was killed was acting negligently doesn't mean that the towing company is not liable for any negligence on their part -if any.)
  4. Yeah, you probably should have stopped with your first post. Doubling down didn't make you look any better.
  5. Do you have guns in your home? If so, statistically your child is more likely to be shot at home than in a school. If you and BlsdMama want to trot out this line of thinking, one could easily make the argument that children of gun owners would all be safer in boarding schools.
  6. I believe (not 100% sure but not in the mood to research it) that some parents/guardians have faced prosecution in at least a few shootings. I do know others were investigated and not charged as they were not criminally negligent in how they stored the weapons.
  7. I don't believe the bolded is universally true. If you compare school security in most places in 1998 to now, I believe you would find a great deal has changed. Schools also (sadly) have plans in place for what happens if an armed intruder gets on campus. Most of the mass shootings would not have been prevented by metal detectors or bag searches.
  8. I am not quoting your words as I think that after reflecting on them a bit you may realize what a mistake they were.
  9. I am not sure what would be confusing or dishonest about that statement. Let's say the vaccination rate for a disease is 95%, meaning 5% of the cohort is not vaccinated. If 20% of those who catch the disease have not received the vaccination, it is easy to see that not receiving the vaccination significantly increases the likelihood of being infected. Not to mention the benefits of a high vaccination rate lowering the spread of the disease and generally lowering the total number of cases among the entire population.
  10. We did that a lot. Hot dogs weren't so bad but hamburgers get the bread mushy. (BTW, Eddie Murphy has a bit about this.)
  11. My DH is similar. He doesn't generally get angry, but he is often on edge and he does seem to have a fear gnawing away at him any time we have to make a large purchase or do anything unexpected. It took me a long time to understand why he is this way and that I had to let him work through his process.
  12. Coinbase is fine but their fees are high and investing a small amount like that will make it a bit more difficult to turn a profit under their fee structure. We are not in any currency at the moment after selling BTC, LTC, ETH, and Ripple recently. I would like to have the ETH and LTC back right now. *sigh*
  13. In addition to the bolded, much of what was being offered via the internet was not in direct competition with many of the companies providing internet service and there was generally no significant difference in the amount of data being used by certain services. Online streaming of media content has changed the market significantly and is a likely target in a non-neutral world.
  14. Hhhmmm...if only there were additional steps we could take that would make breaking these laws more difficult. I wonder if other countries have a similar problem or have figured out how to address this?
  15. Hhhhmmmm...not sure what California law says regarding sentencing after a new trial if he is again found guilty. I know in my state the sentence can generally only be increased if new information comes out at trial that would justify a harsher sentence. Increasing the sentence just because there is an opportunity to do so after a new trial can be construed as vindictive and a means to discourage appeals. I am guessing California must have some restrictions otherwise this is a huge gamble by his attorney.
  16. I misread the thread title as "what's the deal with dogs and shoplifting" and I was very, very confused.
  17. I think you are used to dictating a discussion and expect everyone to play by whatever ground rules you set. You are quick to accuse me of many, many things, yet you are the one who can't seem to engage in a back and forth.
  18. 1.) I just looked up the most recommended guns for hog hunting. On every list I found the majority did not need a high capacity magazine. You disputed the quote (which was mine btw) about no one having a "legitimate use" for a high capacity magazine. If other weapons do the job just as effectively, there is no need. And no, I can't choose what is best for someone, but as a society we can take some options off the table. :) 2.) Perhaps instead of getting angry you could have asked for a clarification of what I meant by "legitimate use". 3.) And I am choosing to respond as there is no need to have high capacity magazine weapons for "games". Trust me, the guys who like to play Patriot in the woods will find a way to get their Rambo boners if they have to play pretend war with other weapons.
  19. How are you defining promiscuity as part of this alleged social contract? I also don't think anything you suggest actually makes sense or applies to previous eras. Women did not agree to not be promiscuous to avoid rape. 1.) Women have never avoided rape. 2,) In most cultures women did not control their own sexuality. They were generally treated as property and their sexuality was treated as a resource/property.
  20. 1.) Most home defense recommendations do not involve assault style rifles with high capacity magazines. Seriously. When was the last time someone needed to fire 30+ rounds to defend their home? Shotguns are recommended more often than rifles for many reasons. 2.) Feral hogs have been hunted for decades without the need of 30 round magazines. 3.) A game is not a need. Not great arguments when they can be countered in less than 30 seconds.
  21. ITT we learn that women who are sexually assaulted can still be blamed by other women.
