  1. Right now I'm waiting for, BFSU Henry & Ribsy James and the Giant Peach Last week was a doozy. :D SOTW 1 FLL 1 Illustrated Classics for Boys Usborne science encyclopedia A Charlie and Lola book to keep things light ;) Say What (this one was for my twins) Mr Poppers Penguins Creative Homeschooling by Lisa Rivero And we also ordered the rest of our curriculum, AAS 1, Miquon orange and rods, Singapore 1 a workbook I should probably get the ups man a little treat or something.
  2. I won't even go that far, we'll battle it out until he sees that I'm right.
  3. I understand. I went back and forth until thhe last possible second. I even started getti the paperwork for the charter together. I just had to stop, and close out all the noise, and think about what I wanted for DS, and where he was most likely to get it. I decided homeschooling was still better, Think of the charter as second place to HSing, even if second place is awesome, it's still second place, you know? (no offense to the silver medalists out there! ;))
  4. I would love to consider a whole other paradigm, please go on! And, if I do everything right to stop the hitting, but it still happens, do I not give a consequence? (if I'm not thinking punitively?) It's only my older ds, he hits dh mostly, but sometimes the twins and I. :(
  5. We were in the same spot, and chose homeschooling. The gifted charter was an excellent choice, but homeschooling still offers my child the most. Think of it as opening a spot for a child who doesn't have a better option. :grouphug:
  6. :bigear: I was thinking of posting this question myself, thank you for asking!
  7. I will say that I appreciate it more now in my twins. When my older DS did things that were "advanced," it scared me. Now I stop and marvel at their little minds, and accept, yes, they are REALLY doing that. :D
  8. I buy higher priced items, but I don't buy them often. I buy super expensive jeans, but I buy 1 or 2 pairs, and I'm set for 3 or 4 years. I buy nice classic dresses and skirts from jcrew and nordstrom that I can wear for years. I tend to spend more on fall & winter clothes, and summer clothes I shop old navy and target. We have short summers and long winters.
  9. Thank you for all of the replies! I truly appreciate hearing from others who have gone before me. :) I think we will start with the 3R's and see what else we have time for, and what he is interested in. I have all of the supplies, just in case!
  10. I will not pretend that I knew he was gifted, because it took someone else to tell me. However, I knew something was different when he could turn the pages in his books at 6 months when we asked him. Also at 2 when he spelled the word mom in his leapfrog learning toy, and said, "It says mom." (He did this right after dumping a bottle of canola oil on my carpet while I was going to the bathroom. LOL! He learned early to suck up after being naughty.)
  11. My son is about the same age, and reads at that level. We are just buying classics and children's novels instead of readers. James & the Giant peach, Ribsy, Mr Popper's penguins, Charlotte's Web, etc. I have this book, it's good, but I find I still need to skip ahead a few grades. http://www.amazon.com/Some-Best-Friends-Are-Books/dp/0910707960/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1312060220&sr=8-1
  12. My DS is pretty much ready for a first grade level for most subjects. I'm just not sure how many subjects to do. I definitely want some structure to our studies. He is ready for it, and does well with it. I don't want to overwhelm him, or myself for that matter! How did you handle k/1 or whatever you did when your DC was 5.
  13. My twins names don't go together, but have the same middle initial. :) It's the only "twin" thing I've done. I would love to hear your perspective on having twins after having lots of singletons. I only had one to compare to. :D
  14. Any advice how to break the "school at home" habit? I'm finding myself pretty much wearing my hair in a bun writing on a blackboard. I need to :chillpill:
  15. That's great! I gave up dairy, soy, egg, wheat and a bunch of other stuff to nurse my oldest DS for 2 years. I did again for my twins, and I felt so much better both times. But I still love cheeeeese!
  16. my DS knew his ABC's by 18 months, and could recognize any letter, and numbers up to 10 by 2. He was reading at 2.5 I will say that I didn't talk about it. I knew no one would believe me!
  17. Because at home, there are no round holes. I don't want my little square peg rounded out. ;)
  18. Thanks everyone! I'm going to go ahead and order the book, it's a fraction of the price of NL, if I don't like it, I won't be out too much money.
  19. 3 small, the only visible one is on my ankle, and no one ever notices it. People are shocked when they find out I have tattoos!
  20. I forgot erasers! Thank you! I do have paints, barely touched, I should get some posterboard too. I just bought some dry erase boards, and Costco had a big set of dry erase markers too. I'm a school supply junkie.
  21. I may not be smart enough to homeschool, I'm so confused by this website! ETA: I understand now! It's kind of like the book the PP shouted at me. LOL. I guess I'm looking for a little less planning. The NL looks a lot easier.
  22. I will definitely get printer paper! My DS hates to draw, color or do anything artistic, so I'm hesitant to buy too much in the way of art supplies. But maybe if I got some new supplies, he will open up to it. Thanks for the suggestions!
  23. I agree, I wouldn't grade skip in that situation. I'd see if he can get subject acceleration. School may be an uphill battle at times. He sounds like a square peg, like my DS. :D
