  1. We are secular, and Christian, but I would like my kids to learn about all religions. So I picked the second choice. :)
  2. Thank you! I've been checking out FFL, I think I'll just go with that!
  3. Ooooh, I love all of that stuff! Cool ideas, thank you! (And I like your room!)
  4. :iagree: I had my son tested right before he turned 4. I wanted to know just what I was dealing with. I knew he was "ahead," but I didn't know if he was ahead enough that he would require special schooling. Even though we don't need his IQ score and achievement testing for HSing, it's reassuring that what I am seeing as gifted, is in fact gifted, and it's not my "mommy goggles." I was of the thought that everyone thinks their kid is a genius, so I was probably just biased. As far as the "how do you know," The Ruf levels are a good place to start, or you can google "signs of giftedness in children." FWIW, I now prefer the term, "asynchronous learner," over the word "gifted." :D Gifted is such a loaded word, and means something different to everyone. ETA: Apparently I like to use "quotes" a lot.
  5. Any suggestions what to start with for grammar? :001_smile: Thanks for the advice!
  6. This is what I decided to do, thanks again for the help everyone!
  7. I've been going back and forth on this one. My DS will be 5 in November, we are starting K in the fall. I'm wondering if I should wait a few years for this or not. He reads at about a 4th or 5th grade level at this point, and we started talking about nouns and verbs a few weeks ago, it just came up organically. But it says for gifted 3rd graders, so I don't know.... I guess I could always buy it and then hold onto it for a while if he is not ready.
  8. We will be using this system in the fall, I'm glad to hear it can work! :tongue_smilie:
  9. That's exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for, thanks! I feel like I'm going to need more book shelves. :)
  10. How do you organize your HS supplies, books, etc? Do you have a room or designated area? Pics would be awesome too! (if there is a thread like this already, you can direct me to that. :))
  11. Thanks for the suggestion! And, it was supposed to say THINKING not funking. Geez iPad!
  12. Any science suggestions? I was thinking we would just check out some different things at the library. He wants to do experiments. :D
  13. I searched 10 pages back and didn't see a thread for Cleveland. Are there any cle hs'ers out there?:001_smile:
  14. I think you are going to find it varies a lot. I know for us, the school my DS was accepted to wanted the WPPSI/WISC & WJ-III. So we paid for those two, and then decided to move, of course the new school wants the SB-V and the WIAT. :glare: (We've decided to HS, so it's a moot point, but it just goes to show that everyone wants something different.) Like the PP said, SAT or ACT would be widely accepted, but 9 is probably too young.
  15. Thank you! I'll look at that one too. :) ETA: I couldn't find CSMP on the abbreviation list.
  16. I know davidson requires IQ and achievement. (You can substitute a portfolio for one, but you must have either IQ or achievement.) http://www.davidsongifted.org/youngscholars/Article/Davidson_Young_Scholars___Qualification_Criteria_384.aspx
  17. That was my initial thinking. He was accepted for early K this year, so if we weren't HS, he would be a year ahead as far as the state is concerned. It doesn't matter as far as homeschooling goes, but if we were to ever enter the PS system, will it be more of a fight to get him placed properly? ETA: It's going to be an uphill battle no matter what, isn't it? :)
  18. Oh yeah, that sounds like it would irritate my DS. He wants things given to him straight. Yep, I think this would be my DS too. :iagree: I'll check it out, thanks a bunch!
