  1. We're still waiting for scores, but I'm so impressed by the results!
  2. I'm not sure how much I can help. My daughter had used Thinkwell for Algebra and Geometry before moving to their Pre-Calculus. They list their progression as Geometry, then Pre-Calculus which would include their Algebra 2 class. Dd had breezed through the previous classes but found the Pre-Calc confusing without having had Algebra 2 beforehand. She was carrying a heavy load with several AP classes, so rather than help her through the rough patch, I called Thinkwell. They gave her access to their Algebra 2 class (along with the Pre-Calc). She decided to just take the Algebra 2 alone and move to the Pre-Calc next year. I'm not sure if we'll stay with Thinkwell for Pre-Calc or switch to DO next year. Although dd finds math relatively easy, she doesn't like Aops. I don't feel that I can teach her Pre-Calc myself, so I'm in a similar situation to you and looking for a great option for Pre-Calc. The difference in price between DO and Thinkwell is significant, but I'm not able to judge if it's worth paying for the difference. She wants to follow with AP Calc the following year. Let me know if there's anything specific that I can answer.
  3. Yes, Dd is taking both AP Lang and APUSH next year and looking forward to them. Thanks for all the information!
  4. Thank you!! Dd will take AP US History next year, so maybe this can follow. History is her favorite, and I've felt badly about hesitating on another history class. There still are no reviews on the PA Homeschoolers site for this class or World. Did your Dd like the class?
  5. My daughter used Thinkwell Geometry last year and enjoyed it. I needed to outsource something, and she enjoyed the lessons. She did all the worksheets and quizzes and did very well. I didn't need to help her and she didn't need additional sources. The Geometry was far more than what was covered in my Geometry class in high school. There may be more in depth books, but it served our purpose, as I needed to outsource something. She did start their pre-calc this year and felt overwhelmed. In their sequence, it was listed as following Geometry. She definitely needed Algebra 2 first. We switched over and she has been doing their Algebra 2. We will likely switch to something else next year for pre-calc.
  6. Bumping this to see if anyone can give feedback on this class. I'm afraid to teach it myself, but the lack of feedback makes me nervous. Are there any other online providers that offer this class or is it just PA Homeschoolers?
  7. Glad to hear it. Sounds like a great place to pass some time :)
  8. About to drop Dd off. We've joked that this is her first day of school 😊. She's done well on her practice exams. Hoping it all goes smoothly for her. Looking forward to picking her up this afternoon! Good luck to everyone else!
  9. The school dd is taking the exams at said that there will be a bin in the classroom that she'll have to place her phone into. Hadn't realized she could bring a watch! Duh!
  10. The Friday evening service is beautiful. Between Thursday and Friday, I'd recommend Friday. Saturday evening is the most beautiful if you can make it.
  11. This is our first year. Dd is taking three classes through PA Homeschoolers and all three have set aside at least two weeks for review. She is doing a great deal of review on her own because she wants to do very well and doesn't know what to expect. Not sure if it's overkill, but it's been nice for her to focus on review and not much other class work.
  12. Dd is prepping for 3 exams. We took a mini tour of the high school so that she would be less nervous on the day of the exams. I can't believe we're almost done!
  13. The PA Homeschoolers Instructor sent an email saying that we should create an account so that we can view the grade online. However, it asks for the student ID number. From what I can understand, we'd have to wait until dd takes her first exam in order to create the account. Have I misunderstood?
  14. This year dd will be taking her first AP exams and has two scheduled on the same day. The school has said that all the paperwork will be done in the first half hour that she is there and that she doesn't have time to leave in between the two exams. Naturally, we'd prefer that she have a break even if it's just to step outside and talk to us in the parking lot and have a quick lunch. I don't want to irritate the school so figured I'd ask you all here whether this is reasonable or if we should let it slide. On the AP site it says that some exams are two hours and others are three. Even if the morning session is three hours, she should be done by 11:00, right? And, if they want her back at 11:30 to fill out paperwork, she'd still have time to step outside and relax a little, right? How many kids generally will take back to back tests? I think most will be taking one or the other and she'll be sitting there by herself anyway for a half hour. TIA!
  15. Not trying to hijack, but what should I be reading in order to know which subject tests are more ideal than others to take? I've been reading a lot here regarding high school but every time I think I begin to have a handle on something, I uncover another subject I know nothing about! What is the best source for learning about the curves for each test and best ones for students to take?
  16. Can you all recommend what you think is the best review book to use?
  17. My dd spends 2-5 hours a week on the class and does everything on the syllabus. She's begun to look at an AP prep book, but even that is listed on the syllabus as part of the class. I think that like many things, the factors that make something a great fit for one family, makes it not the best fit for another. We like that the course is asynchronous and very straightforward. I am also working and didn't feel confident in prepping an AP course on my own. We wanted a class that dd could take that would prepare her for a 5. We have a local option where the students score well, but the class is boring and the live teacher reads from a prep bookðŸ˜. Dd takes other PA classes and they all have their own feel. Organization, excellent prep for the exam and teacher availability are what are most important to us. Dd is taking another class with a live component and I was very frustrated initially because it was all being scheduled in the late afternoon and evening, which does not work for us because of other commitments. I think ymmv depending on what you're looking for. Dd feels she's being prepared well for the exams and is learning a great deal. Fwiw, it is one of her first APs.
  18. It sounds as if the aspect she's looking for is the social interaction she believes will be part of the high school experience. Maybe taking part in a summer camp, even one that is academically based, would help to either provide that or dispel her perceptions. Spending several weeks away with the reality of teen social interactions may help her to appreciate her chance to homeschool. Our dd spends a portion of the summer in something similar and has said it's not only given her perspective on not wanting to attend high school but she doesn't want to live in a dorm in college. She loves much of her summer experience, but she's very aware of the social pressures, as well.
  19. This was one of dd's first AP classes, and she's enjoyed it. The first half of the year the students graded their own short answer questions based on the rubric provided by the teacher. Now they are writing FRQs and the teacher is giving them feedback on them. The teacher grades and comments on the workbook questions and activities, posts on the web board and comments on the students' posts. She sends out a weekly bulletin with additional sources for students. My dd has found her comments to be helpful on the work she's submitted and supportive. She'll be taking the exam in May, so we can't comment on how well she's prepared for the exam yet. Dd is taking two other classes with PAHomeschoolers and is enjoying all three.
  20. Can you give an estimate of how much time your dd spent on it? Did she feel that it prepared her well for the AP test?
