  1. We did! We read the section, and sometimes re read the next day. I have a placemat that has one side with the states written and the other was blank. We reviewed with that or http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/USA_Geography/USA_G0_double2.html It was painless and fun and quick! Once it was done I set him loose on the game and he was very proud that he could find all the states. I do think I will need to review a lot or he might forget them but it is not a big deal to have him play the game. Ds is 8.
  2. In order to manage blood sugar, would one avoid all fruits? Or just "white" grains?
  3. I use this site a lot http://bookwizard.scholastic.com/tbw/homePage.do You can put in the title and find similar books.
  4.:lol::lol: I was thinking there will be LOTS of sweets so I was hoping to balance some out :blushing: Thank you for the ideas!
  5. Any favorites? This is for our Christmas Party- no allergies, about 14 kids, 5 adults.
  6. I would like to hear what is false if you feel so inclined. I promise not to debate- I am curious.
  7. I am living vicariously through all of you . I am dieting and there is no way I could bake without eating :glare: I have read the thread twice
  8. http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3228811&CAWELAID=227820173 My mom is thinking of getting this for ds8. It looks cool. Does anyone know if it is? Also it comes with zero knights! Does anyone know of a starter pack so to speak?
  9. Get it! My son chose pink training wheels when he was 4. I was worried what the kids in the neighborhood would say but he handled it. Shocked a little girl said "Your training wheels are pink" and he happily replied, "I know! " and that was that. At 8 he actually hesitated when the only crayon left was pink yesterday  So yup get it!
  10. Is the Story of Great Americans for Little Americans accurate? Thanks!
  11. What camp is FIL in? What has he said about all this? I would definitely go to SIL's party b/c she asked first and fwiw I think it is awful what new MIL is doing! I am assuming she knew about the party? I don't envy you in having to deal with her :grouphug:. I would not give in to her craziness but I would call FIL and ask him why he has not talked some sense into her (ok I would not really do that but I would want to! I would talk directly to him bc I would want to make sure he heard my reason for not coming and there were no misunderstandings). Just out of curioustity those that RSVP to the first party and now think they should go to the other party, what is their reasoning? How are they justifying that> ETA:dh would make the call I am pretty sure
  12. I am teaching a K class at a co-op- once a week for 2 hours. I thought it would be nice to have some center type activities. I have no idea the level of the children so I would like the activities to be as open ended as possible. I have some ideas but if you have any easy cheap adn light (I have to drag this stuff back and forth each week) I would appreciate it! I have been looking at file folder games too so if anyone knows any good ones that would be great! Or has other ideas :D
  13. Sorry I did not thank everyone sooner! I got many of the suggestions from the library :001_smile: and am about to ask for easy "center" type activities. Thank you!
  14. So when you guys say no sugar it sounds like the sugar in fruit and milk is ok. You are talking pure white stuff?:bigear:
  15. We saw it in regular format and had a great time! It was a good movie!:D
  16. That is great! I will use that next time. I punish both if they are arguing bc it takes two to argue. But then I usually give out chores. Next time I am going to sit them on the couch and have them not look at each other  Along the same lines, have you tried something like chasing your 3 year old around the house? My ds 8 always wants to join in.....then they are both running from me and working together to outsmart and keep away from the roaring maniac.
  17. Thanks! It was great! I didn't say a thing but was prepared for an extra saucy story...but by then it was not as juicy and no said anything so I did not have to :D
  18. Thank you guys for all your insight and help! The recipe I used calls for flour which i *think* I put in :tongue_smilie:. I was sure until I saw the results...lol. It has not really thickened much. I am going to brave the teasing :D. I used granny smith apples-same as always. I did not use a lattice style top- just a regular one with slits cut in it. I was proud of it too since the crust came out great!
  19. The cooking thread got me thinking someone here might be able to answer my question. As you can see I fall into the non cooking type :glare: I made 2 apple pies last night-one to take and one to keep :D. Cut into the keep one and it is...watery. The apples are still there, it isn't mushy just.....watery. The "water"(juice from apples?) is quite yummy b/c it has all the sugar and spices in it. Pie itself tastes fine. so- WHY did this happen? I make apple pies every year for Thanksgiving, same recipe. This has happened to me before but it is inconsistent. ANd never for Thanksgiving, always just for us. And- what do I do about it? The way I see it I could bring as is, not bring it, or somehow try to drain it..... If I do not bring it there will be disappointment since I do the apple. If I bring as is I will be subject to teasing which I think I can handle :tongue_smilie:. But families being families with history and all that it doesn't always come across as good natured and fun so I could end up feeling out of sorts and sad. Not sure what will happen if I drain it. Maybe I will use the apple pie that is staying as a test and try to drain it. ANyway, anyone know?:bigear:
  20. Great ideas! Thank you! It would be so fun to do ALL of these things..lol. Jen in PA- did you bring all that stuff for centers in or was it there? Did you already have all that? I really would love for them to be able to do center type activities but I can't see bringing it in and out ever week (even if I did have it which I do not...well some but not much honestly) I wonder if I could make some things? ETA: How did they make /play Ring the Gak?
  21. They are cute as can be! I am interested to hear what others say.
