  1. I'm in the same boat with my daughter. She'll be finishing Saxon 8/7 next week and we want to do Algebra and beyond using something different. We'll likely be doing Derek Owens. His program has received great reviews. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Because we currently live overseas, my family will be bringing back my homeschooling books. So I need to finalize next year's choices. Any updates on whether Advanced Language Lessons (or is it called Grammar Lessons for the Well Trained Mind?) will be out before September? At least PDF version? I hope so, I hope so, I hope so...!
  3. How touching! And inspiring! Thank you so much for sharing such a heartfelt and beautiful success story. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. How about Derek Owens? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. My daughter (7th or 8th grade- undecided) will be doing Rainbow science next year and is quite excited about it! My two questions are: - Can we do both years in one? I heard some people have done that. I'd rather do that, if possible, than supplement. - We live overseas but I'll be having the curriculum shipped to our U.S address and a family member will bring it. Do any of the lab kits contain anything disallowed in international travels? Flammable chemicals, sharp items, etc?
  6. Newer soft covers. Despite all the differing views about Saxon, my kids' math skills have become very solid. We are very happy with it. I do supplement with Zaccaro's Challenge Math Series to build up problem-solving skills. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Bumping. Can you please post a link to this? Thanks!
  8. Planning summer and 7th grade for dd. She enjoys writing but needs instruction. Which online Bravewriter classes have you tried and enjoyed for middle school?
  9. Using 5/4 for one and 8/7 for another and it's going really well. Dd is using 8/7 with Saxon Teacher CD's. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I would too! And bumping to add: did you notice an actual improvement in you're kids' writing? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Ditto the thank you!!! I so needed this resource!
  12. IEW accomplished this beautifully for us. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I really liked IEW Student Writing Intensive. But I taught it, as opposed to having her watch the DVDs. I liked it because it was systematic and gradually and gently built them up to well written research papers and creative writings. It improved my daughter's writing tremendously. But I'd recommend Writing With Ease 1-3 before this. And after IEW, maybe check out Bravewriter's online classes. It's received great reviews here. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Bravewriter Online. The following order is what they recommend: Kidswrite Intermediate Expository Essay 1 Expository Essay 2 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. You have to find what works for you and your kids. After many trials, I have found that a regimented schedule (I.e. with time slots for everything) didn't work for us, due to the fact that I'm a perfectionist and get really stressed out and frustrated when we don't follow the schedule as planned. What I found DID work is a routine and a planner. My kids sleep and wake up at the same time everyday. After breakfast, they start. I have planned a week's worth in each one's planner. So they go down the list and highlight whatever they finish on that day's column. I am available for all of them, though I work more closely with my youngest (4th grade). The older ones are more independent. Then when they finish that day's work and we correct it (if applicable) they go off and play, read, or go to their sports or extracurricular activities. 16. What if I delayed AP Statistics to 12th grade. The plan for 12th is: DO AP Calculus PAH AP English Literature DO Physics Any open & go US History Possibly dual enrollment Macroeconomics or Speech Would that be less or more doable than in 11th? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Maybe you can find him classes that have video components (especially for math), choose more open and go curricula, and outsource with some online classes. For my high schooler and middle schooler I write out their week's workload in their planners and they have to highlight when they finish. And I check it daily. Hope it works out for you!
  18. We'll be doing American literature in Center for Lit.
  19. Thanks for the input. Ok so now I'm more worried about Chemistry. To help ease him into it, he started going through Chang's Chemistry textbook with a private teacher here. Thanks for the Thinkwell recommendations. Will definitely check it out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. I'd like some feedback please about the setup, difficulty, and work load. Also, was it one of the PAH classes your children enjoyed most or least? This year he took only 1 AP (Computer Science with Edhesive). Would AP Statistics be too much to add to the following workload? DO Precalculus AP Chemistry (PAH) Bravewriter Online Classes Center for Lit US government (undecided but something open & go)
  21. I personally couldn't imagine how my dd would have been able to skip WWE 3. That would have overwhelmed her. Each level seems to increase quite significantly in difficulty of both the reading passage and dictation. I was also one year behind (we started with WWE 2 in 3rd grade). But I basically doubled the pace in WWE 2 so we finished it mid-year and started WWE 3. We just did narration and dictation on one day instead of 2. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. It does! Thank you all for answering all my questions. So do I have her do the placement test or start from Level 1?
  23. Thanks! So do I just purchase the teacher's manual and student packet, or do I need the interactive kit as well?
  24. She does dictation from Writing With Ease 3, but I help with spelling when needed.
  25. How do these compare in terms of content, student writing progress, college prep, etc.? What are the pros of each (or cons, if any)? I'm deciding for both my high schooler and middle schooler.
