A home for their hearts
I've posted this on the wanted to buy board but thought I might get more traffic here. It is hard for me to post this but my family really needs help right now. We have fallen on some hard times and will not be able to buy curriculum for the coming year. My dh has to take a 2 week unpaid lay-off from his job so the money for books is gone. It could be worse and we are thankful that he still has a job. He could be layed off at any time and the stress of that can be unbearable. We have a lot on our plates right now, my dd1 needs some dental work that we are trying to scrap up the money for, we need work done on our roof that we can't even afford so there just isn't any money right now for anything else. I thought I would check here to see if anyone can help us out with curriculum. We would not be able to pay with money but with the deepest gratitude from our hearts. We are in need of the following. Math-We are currently using R&S 3 right now but it just isn't working with my dc. I would love to use RightStart math but I know this is very expensive. I believe BJU 3 might work, or possibly singapore. I want something that clearly explains the concepts. My dc are really struggling with some of the concepts that aren't covered very well in R&S Spelling- We need All About Spelling level 3 or something similar to this. Megawords 1 might work well. Found, thank you! Writing-Writing Strands 2 Found, thank you!, or Classical Writing AesopAesop Instructors Guide A Found, thank you Phonics-Victory Drill book,Found, thank you! I'm still trying to find something for my ds9 who is struggling to learn to read. If you have something that you no longer need and would like to hand it off let me know what you have. Reading- I See Sam readers ARI 2, QuickReads Level C books 1,2,&3, or any phonetic readers you may have. Melinda
Someone posted about a ministry that supplies materials at no cost (not even shipping) to families that are having a hard time making ends meet and may not be able to afford the curriculum that would work best. I don't remember the name, but I will look it up if you are unable to find it.
LadyAberlin
Have you looked at old fashioned education. It is free online and all grades. I think they use MEP math which is similar to singapore.

Since they operate on a donation bases that can't always send what you request. Don't get me wrong we were very blessed with the books we got from them in the past and put them to good use. I am considering sending in another request but I thought I would see if anyone here could help us out with some specific items. I'm not trying to be picky, there are just a few things that I know will work with my dc and I don't know if book samaritan would have them. A home for their hearts
I've been overwhelmed with gratitude from all the responses I have recieved for help. It was very hard for me to post this and ask for help. I want to thank everyone who has offered books to me and my family, you have been a great blessing to us. I believe we have been called to homeschool and I knew God would provide for us and He has. Very humbly, thank you.

A home for their hearts
I'm not quite sure, I've never used it. My dc can do double digit addition and subtraction, we've touched a little on multipliation but not much. I'm also looking for my ds5, who will be starting kindergarten work soon. gardening momma
Reading- I Am Sam readers ARI 2, QuickReads Level C books 1,2,&3, or any phonetic readers you may have. What grade level are the I Am Sam readers? I found QuickReads online, and see that level C is about 3rd grade. For your 5 yo, I have an extra set of A Beka Little Owl books, if you're interested. They're K4 level. I'm using an identical set with my 5 yo dd. https://www.abeka.com/ABekaOnline/BookDescription.aspx?sbn=2421X&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=

Pata
Just thinking about other free resources you could use... For math: MEP math, it's based on Hungarian math and is suppose to teach how to think math, like Singapore (I haven't actually used it, but I know that others here do.) For Handwriting: Zane Blouser has a website where you can make your own handwriting worksheets, just go here and click on the get started button. Also here's a link to a story Bible online at the Baldwin project. Hope those help :)!

at the beach
I just want to add that MEP is a really wonderful math program. Very similar to Singapore. It really encourages mathematical thinking. Also, another totally free resource is amblesideonline.org. You might want to just check it out. Anita

*********
Stacy, can you post a link to the 'I See Sam' readers? I found the website, but it doesn't say anything about 'ARI' for a level anywhere. They look really interesting, but I can't figure out the levels you are refering to. :) There are two different place, that I know of, that sell the I See Sam readers. You may have found the website groups them into set 1, 2 etc. Here is a link to the site I use. Here they break them up into sets according to BRI set 1 & 2. BRI stands for Beginning Reading Instruction. Then there are a set of tween books. This set is a set of books used between BRI and ARI. ARI is Advance Reading Instruction and there are 6 sets in this group. I hope that makes sense, I have a nursing toddler sitting on my lap right now doing acrobats! LOL The website should help you understand. There is also a yahoo group for it. You can find that here HTH!

We do already have insurance which would cover most of the cost however the all the dentist in our area want our portion paid upfront. I would still look into it. I know that here you can still qualify even if you have insurance. They would pay the portion your insurance won't cover. They only look at the previous 30 days of income and don't count your assets at all (house, car, savings). I don't know how much the programs vary from state to state, but it is worth looking into.
