Gamom3
I normally use liquid He detergent, but noticed that it was making our towels smell funny. Can I use any type of powder detergent or does it need to be HE? The reason I ask is either I don't know what to look for or the store I was at doesn't have it. lmrich
Yes, I didn't for awhile and had to get mine fixed. My washer is not front loading but require HE. I know there are some issues with the front loading - my inlaws keep the doors open after a load so that it can dry out and mildew/mold won't grow. Gamom3
I used the HE liquid
Tree House Academy
Yes, use the HE detergent. Otherwise you will have a mess. I used mine for a long time with regular detergent and I was always opening the door to clothes that were not rinsed well and still had soap in them. Plus, after awhile, it can ruin the machine. Better safe than sorry. :)
Tree House Academy
You CAN use the HE powder (I do, Tide) but don't put it in the little caddy thing where you put the liquid, put it directly in the washer after you load it with the clothes. It will mix in when the water runs.
Gamom3
I didnt see any powder HE detergent last time I went shopping so I just purchased regular powder(figured they didn't make HE powder)..I have been using it for a month now and have 3/4 of a box left! Glad I asked.. I hope I haven't messed anything up!!!!
Miss Peregrine
Tide makes an HE. I use Costco brand but way less that the box says. After trial and error and too many suds!
WTMCassandra
Honestly, I don't think your problem is the detergent. Even though I keep my front-loader's door open all the time, I have to run an empty load of vinegar or bleach through about every eight weeks or so to keep mold/mildew down. And I live in a desert! It's something about how the front-loaders are constructed. The first place I will smell mildew buildup (that I cannot yet see) is in the towels. I recommend running a an empty load with vinegar or bleach and see if that fixes the problem.
OnTheBrink
I had a Maytag front loader and used regular detergent and it had horrid smells. When I bought my Whirlpool front loader and used only HE, no horrid smells.
mom2agang
Tide makes HE with febreeze that helped with my towels.I can find it @ target.
Ellie
I have a front loader, and use only Amway laundry products (I've used both liquid and powder). Everything smells fresh, and I never leave the door open (I have cats, and they would want to get inside ).
Cindyg
I can't stand it. What is HE?

SonshineLearner
When I called Seventh Generation, they said to just use half as much. I just use a little.... (maybe even a third) and it works perfectly. I use liquid. I've used many different kinds of detergent, but I use detergent that is pretty "natural." Carrie:-) (I've had it for maybe....3+ yrs.)
