Toocrazy!!
I bought a ham to bake for a party tomorrow, but now that I’m reading some recipes I’m not sure what to do with it. It’s bone in. I plan on serving it with rolls and spreads for small sandwiches. I haven’t cooked a ham in years, and I can’t really remember, but think I sliced and fried it honestly. Any BTDT advice and glaze recipes for a baked ham?
mommyoffive
I just do it in the crockpot
Toocrazy!!
I don’t think I can fit it in my crockpot.
Innisfree
What kind of ham is it? Most are moist these days, but there are still some dry, highly cured country hams. They need to be treated differently. Did any instructions come with it?
klmama
I've never glazed a ham, but in heating a fully cooked ham in the oven you will probably want to add water to the pan and tent the ham with foil to keep the moisture in.
Toocrazy!!
It says it’s a fully cooked smoked ham, bone in, shank. Instructions say can be served hot or cold. If heating, 350 degree oven 15 minutes per pound. It’s 20 pounds!
marbel
I've made this recipe for ham in the past. It's pretty good, but I've found I don't like a sweet glaze. https://www.food.com/recipe/montes-ham-80345
KatieJ
I wouldn’t bother with a glaze if it’s for sandwiches. It just need to be warmed up as directed. A large Cake pan with a tent of tin foil over it will be just fine.
Innisfree
I agree that I wouldn’t glaze it for sandwiches. If you do want to glaze it, that’s usually a quick process, after the ham is already warm or hot. The sugar will burn if it’s heated too long. Personally, for sandwiches, I wouldn’t even heat it. But you can assemble the buttered, filled rolls or biscuits in a pan, cover the whole business with aluminum foil, and heat them gently like that. Toocrazy!!
I was thinking I’d just put the warmed ham on a platter with the rolls for those that wanted to make a sandwich. But some people will probably eat it without the bread I’m sure.
City Mouse
If you want it warmed, you can cut the slices first then reheat the slices in the oven. That will be much quicker than heating the whole thing at once.
marbel
We were given a honeybaked ham this year, which we started eating last night. Per their instructions, I estimated how many slices we'd want for dinner, wrapped it in foil, and put it in a low oven till it was hot. I was worried that it was going to taste steamed - since it was steamed! - but it was quite good. Edited December 23, 2023 by marbel
