teachermom2834
Remember what an issue his age was when he ran for president? Was it 1996? So much talk about how he wouldn't be able to finish out a term if he was elected.
MooCow
I was just coming to post the same thing. Personally, I always thought he was a good man and his wife is wonderful!
AbcdeDooDah
I saw him on his campaign in Riverside, CA. My oldest (now 25) was a baby. We had to leave because every time the crowd cheered, she would scream. 😂

athena1277
I went to a rally he had when I was in college. A bunch of us went and we actually stood behind the podium on the capital steps. I hoped he would win so I could say I saw a president in person.
Resilient
Without intending to, I have read the bios of most presidents, First Ladies, and candidate. I didn't even know I was interested in the category, and it wasn't a Reading List. That said: What I have read about Bob Dole makes me think highly of his character and of him as a person. I think his major flaw was being born in the wrong time, and I sympathize with him in this. He was born and served in a time when ... oh, what's the use... when politics was more about coming together than about division. Finding the way forward rather than finding a way to divide. He made mistakes but they were mistakes of being out of step, not out of malice. I didn't see this at the time he made the mistakes, nor did most of America. My regret. He was a person of good will, of principle, and of self-sacrifice. We will not see many like him in the times to come. Rest In Peace.
