Dh and I both have. I co-founded one, so we created the structure. Dh walked on to a long existing one.

I have in the past.  I have also worked in nonprofit development, working closely with board members.

Thanks everyone!  I have been up all night working on my stuff for the board because dh uses our only computer for work during the day.

I think we are headed back on track.  Our  board has been operating more like a club with a hierarchy than a nonprofit board.

A lot of times IME nonprofit boards start out as groups of volunteers that are unusually committed, and gradually build into working boards, and from there into more formal Carver model boards.  You might be in transition?

How a board operates can also be different if it is simply a non-profit or if it is designated as a charitable organization.
