My older is so resistant to the MP Christian Studies program (for some good reasons, some native stubbornness) ... I am good for Bible reading (though happy for suggestions there too, if you have something wonderful) but would love suggestions for systematic memory, esp. maybe of some longer sections or verses that speak to a child's heart (and not just Bible history &c). KrissiK Posted June 6, 2018 Share Posted June 6, 2018 I don’t use a curriculum for memory. I’ll just print up a verse and we say it a time or two each day for the week. Some passages I’ve chosen are Psalm 1, Philippians 2, we always do the Christmas passage from Luke 2 in November and December. The first day we talked about what the new verse meant (much of the proverb it takes two verses together to complete a thought). Subsequent days we practiced, with Friday as a "Check Progress from Memory" day. serendipitous journey Posted June 6, 2018 Author Share Posted June 6, 2018 I realized that what I'm really needing is a set of scriptures to memorize. Maybe we will stick with the MP Christian Studies selections: there are plenty there, if you count the K-3 years it is a new bit of Scripture more-or-less weekly for 6 school years. But my older child is starting this late, and there's not an emphasis on scriptures that really sink into one's heart; there is more an emphasis on the historical story being told, and hitting the high points. I may just need to work through it myself as we go and find scriptures that make sense for him. I'm very grateful for y'all's help with this! I really like Sonya's materials generally (though I don't use their curriculum plan), and these look wonderful. NotesFromTheParsonage Posted July 9, 2018 Share Posted July 9, 2018 We pick a verse each week. I’ve chosen a variety of ways. Lists others have made. A key verse from the past Sunday’s sermon. A verse from our group Bible study. We read it aloud at the beginning of each day during our morning basket. At the beginning of the week, the kids are all looking it up or repeating after me for those that can’t read yet. By the end of the week, they are all saying it from memory. The older ones write it during the week to practice handwriting.
