TwoEdgedSword
We are watching a movie that I'm enjoying so much! It's Kate and Leopold. It's so refreshing bc it's witty, funny and so far there's not much in the way of sexual objectification of women. I'd love to find more movies like this that are comedies or romantic comedies which don't insult one's intelligence. Any reccs? Also are there any websites that help you find a movie "like" one you already love? I looked up this movie on Amazon to see other reccs it suggested to buy and they weren't close at all. Thank you! Mrs.Wilson
I don't have any suggestions, but would love to see some also. I absolutely love that movie!

Epicurean
Decoy Bride! David Tennant is great. Enchanted is fun, and has the same sort of story elements (old fashioned values vs. modern sensibilities). Penelope is one of my new favorites. Very wholesome but whimsical. And it has James McAvoy and Peter Dinklage. I second Leap Year and While You Were Sleeping. Serendipity isn't a comedy per se, but it's a chick flick that's actually pretty good.

Beth S
"Lost in Austen" (2008) specifically incorporates a similar Then and Now situation, based on the Pride & Prejudice characters.

scrapbookbuzz
Kate & Leopold is great. I told a friend, though, that I could use more of Leopold and a little less Kate! B-) I recognize about half the other movies listed and do recommend them. 27 Dresses!

NoPlaceLikeHome
I would check out some Korean dramas:) Now some of them do treat women as weak beings as we did here in the 1950's but there are plenty of them written by women with strong female characters who may start out somewhat weak but who gain strength. You can watch for free on dramafever.com of viki.com with commercials. Here are some of my favorite: Lie to Me Coffee Prince Master's Sun (it does portray some ghosts but is really not a horror show and is very romantic) Love in Trouble (Suspicious Partner) Radiant Office 1% of Something Shopping King Louis I will warn you Korean dramas are addictive! They typically have 16 to 24 shows which are an hour long. Edited June 16, 2017 by NoPlaceLikeHome

MommyLiberty5013
Any of the Jane Austen books made into movies... The Age of Adeline There are a series of Nicholas Sparks books made into movies (re: The Notebook), but be aware that all have at least one fairly steamy romance scene. So, might not be appropriate for your age levels if watching with kiddos/minors.

SerenityNow
A movie I absolutely adore which doesn't get mentioned very often is Joe vs The Volcano. It stars Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan and is just so quirky and fun. :001_smile:
