wintermom
Yes, the Vikings really got around. The Swedes sailed and traded in Russia and beyond. There is a network of rivers they used for travelling, similar to the network of rivers fur traders used to cross the vast distances in Canada.

bibiche
Here is a link to the actual academic article, which is,naturally, less sensational: http://s3.amazonaws.com/academia.edu.documents/36265546/Betwen_Egypt_Mesopotamia_and_Scandinavia.pdf?AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAJ56TQJRTWSMTNPEA&Expires=1460344443&Signature=JNldSpQWqd7XBbNPCJR1i4bRW70%3D&response-content-disposition=attachment%3B%20filename%3DBetween_Egypt_Mesopotamia_and_Scandinavi.pdf

This is really cool, but reading your title, all I can think about is some ancient Egyptian couple saying "We read and write hieroglyphics every day, but even we can't figure out how to assemble this accursed Scandinavian furniture".
Tsuga
Awesome! People have always been so amazing. This is really cool, but reading your title, all I can think about is some ancient Egyptian couple saying "We read and write hieroglyphics every day, but even we can't figure out how to assemble this accursed Scandinavian furniture". I am so trained to assemble Ikea furniture that I find it hard to understand what other instructions are even getting at. I had a total fail the other day and realized I was not taking their bulleted lists seriously enough. I was thinking, "I need one box per step, WITH NUMBERS, please."
