Serenade
My DH is getting ready to order something from another country, and he noticed that the payment information asks for his birthdate. We're just wondering if this is common with credit card orders outside the US. Any input on this topic would be appreciated.
Kerileanne99
Huh, that would scare me off. I have placed lots of international orders from various countries and never been asked for my bday. ETA: hubby is from the UK and says he never did there either. I lived in Germany for years and had a bank card through a German bank and always was only asked for expiry date as other info...
gardenmom5
I've ordered stuff from other countries - I've never been asked for my birthday. . . . I've had companies here ask for my birthday - so they can send me greetings on my birthday in hopes I'll buy more from them.
Serenade
Thank you -- that is what my DH was thinking, that this is not quite normal. The birthdate is tied to the credit card -- not other account information like what might be used for birthday greetings. I guess he'll need to rethink that order.
regentrude
never been asked for my birthday. raises red flag.
TheReader
I have been asked my bday from sites needing to verify that the person ordering is over a certain age; would this be the case for what he is ordering? If not, then yes, red flags. I've never had it asked just due to being an international order; only when the product warranted an age check.
Lanny
Seems strange. I have only ordered things from the USA and I had our Shipping Addresses (in the USA and in Colombia) on file with the bank in the USA. I have never been asked for my birthday in a transaction with a company in the USA. Recently, with PayPal, we ran into a company (in the USA I think) that wanted the PayPal Billing Address, which I had never run into before. I found that VERY strange. I gave them as much of the address as I could remember from when I signed up for PayPal and the transaction completed successfully. I believe it must depend upon how honest/reliable/trustworthy you believe the Seller is, whether or not you provide the birthdate to them.
Arcadia
Your husband can generate a one time use credit card number if there is no other place to buy from. Never been asked for birthdate. Had only been asked for expiry date, cvv code and most times phone number linked to the card.
Serenade
I have been asked my bday from sites needing to verify that the person ordering is over a certain age; would this be the case for what he is ordering? That could be it. It's a medication type of thing. Maybe that's why.

AmandaVT
He could get a pre-paid visa from the grocery store and use that. That way if it's a scammer, they can't get into his credit. I've never been asked for my birthday either. I have ordered from Canada and the UK before.
