Mom's Brain in a Binder

This was mentioned in another thread recently and I cannot find the post :(

I am trying to get EVERYTHING into one easy to access spot but I do not want to forget anything. Here is what I have for each person, household etc etc. I am looking to see what else I should include. These are for emergency situations and for someone else to be able to take over if something happens to me.

I do NOT need calendars, menus etc. I will not keep up with daily, weekly or monthly calendars or shopping lists. These things are not relevant for what I need.

Each person has one page that includes:

Name,

DOB,

PCP name and number,

specialist name and number,

medical history,

medication list and doses,

emergency contacts and their relations.

Medical insurance information in included and there is a separate page that has copies of he front and back of insurance cards.

I have a page that is for bills

For example:

Cell provider's name

Contact number

Account number

Account holders name and identifying information needed to access the account

Monthly amount

Lather rinse repeat for everything else we have to pay or monitor.

Insurance information:

Company

Agent's name

Office Number

Policy Number

Each insured thing has it's own entry.

I am debating if I should include information on warranties

Contact information for the plumber, electrician etc etc

I have a page for passwords and log in information for various online accounts for myself and my parents

Bank account information

Anything else??

I put in my kids eyeglass prescription sheets in my Binder.

Also, I hide my passwords and credit card numbers in an address section of my books phone book.

Here are a few fake Examples:

Ed & Shellby Locksafe 1-875-832-7894  The last 6 numbers are the code for the safe in the house.

Targ & Red's office: 123445671234 ext# 1234  or try ext#546

Anniversary 08/19

This entry would be for my Target RED card  The second ext # is the numbers on the back of my card.  The Anniversary date is the expiry date for my card.

I placed all credit cards under C, all debit cards under D, bank account #'s under B.

I also placed in my address book, the names of companies we routinely do business with.  The propane guy, seed companies, animal vet, etc.  That way we can contact them and let them know if something has happened.

So, my phone book really looks like a phone book!  You should also include family members addresses and phone numbers.  If you are suddenly evacuated you should have ideal of where you are heading.

Passwords for emails are included in there:

There's entry that looks something like this: Directions to Amy's place: Take 49ND street & turn at CAMpbell ave  The password would be T49NDCAM.

This way, if I can get to a computer anywhere, I can access my emails, etc.

I also included a copy of Belarc in my binder, that way if my computer is destroyed in a fire, I can prove and show my insurance company what programs I had on my computer and get started up again quicker.  Any online programs that have a paid subscription are also written down, so that I can get back into them quickly.  Belarc is something I think every person should do at least once a year on their computers.

If you Google "home management binder printables" you'll come up with tons of printable pages and blog entries about this. I fantasize about keeping one, but really, I'm just never going to get to it *sigh*

Does anyone else worry about putting all of this information in one place, for safety/privacy/security reasons? I mean, I know it has to be somewhere, but my overactive imagination envisions someone breaking in the house and coming across it one someday, or some sharp-eyed service guy in the house taking it when I'm not looking. I know I'm paranoid...

My binder is 2 inches but really I could get away with a one inch, I copy all those important papers into Word, and then told it to print two pages per page front and back on high quality. Yes, it very small to read, but I don't use those pages daily, it just so I have a copy if something extreme happens. This cuts down on the amount of pages in your binder. Also, things like a school transcript, could be scanned into something like Dropbox and the original put into a fire proof safe or stored at the bank.

Mine is all in a zippered binder on the homeschool shelf. Looks mostly like all the other binders on the shelf.

Oh, that makes a lot of sense, thanks. When I had mine, it was always out and about because I was also trying to keep a calendar and meal plans in it. If it's something that's not accessed daily, of course it would be tucked away!

ETA: You know, I'm really glad I saw this thread. When we lost my BIL recently, I was sitting with my SIL when she was saying that she didn't know if DBIL had paid the mortgage for the month, what the password was to his email or FB accounts, etc. It was a really unnecessary added stress for her. It's overwhelming to think about pulling all of this info together, but it still needs to be done. These days, we don't really even get paper bills for anything anymore--they all go into my email or I just pay them by memory. DH would have no idea where to start.

I think I'll make this one of my New Year's goals. Thanks, QGotD and everyone who chimed in!

See, I cannot figure out the logistics of having a calendar and menu plans in with all the personal information. Seems like a recipe for disaster.

Yeah, it didn't work for me at all. I really need the calendar/menu plans/to-do lists to travel with me. I have that all set up so that I can see it on my phone or my Mac--I'm always with one or the other. I can definitely see having a binder of relatively static information though, and on my shelf it would indeed look like just one more boring school resource.

I like the zippered binder idea too--that makes it impossible for it to just fall open and display sensitive information, or to be idly leafed through. Carla, I really appreciate your sharing that.
