J-rap
Over the past six months, our internet has gradually deteriorated to the point where it was not working more than it was working, and after about 20 calls to our internet provider and our phone company, the phone company finally sent a representative today to check our phone lines. SQUIRRELS had eaten through the cables! He said it actually happens all the time in our town; it appears to be a squirrel haven! Anyway, if any of you have the problem of your internet going off and on daily, gradually getting worse, this could be your problem too! Luanne
Wow. I never would have thought of that. We have a lot of squirrels in our city, but we live outside the city. All we have out here are rabbits.... lots and lots of rabbits.
Jean in Newcastle
Ours was our stupid neighbor who dug twice without checking with the city first. The first time, they just nicked the cables making everything intermittently wonky. The second time, they severed them, taking down internet and phone for the entire neighborhood. They weren't really popular around here for a while after that!
Lara in Colo
This would be why I got rid of landline telephone service 8 years ago. They don't seem to eat the cable line, just the phone line. We had so many squirrels for a while that I was tempted to name our house "Tree Rat Ranch"
Sparkle
We have had that happen 3 or 4 times, no joke. Every time the internet goes out, I now suspect squirrels first.
gardenmom5
congratulations in finding the problem. our squirrel problems consists of them shorting out transformers and the power on the hill going out. the same squirrel never does it twice. I've hardly ever seen them in my yard - and only after the house (and most trees) across from us were torn down to build three houses. they're welcome to all the maple helicopters they want. Mergath
That happens around here too. I had to hang out at a working friend's house so the cable guy could stop by and hook up her internet, and he was there for hours replacing the cables the squirrels had chewed through.
