Jean in Newcastle
I have a large casserole dish filled with chicken and cabbage in soy-ginger broth. (We serve it over rice.) They have rebelled (even dh) and won't eat any more. I refuse to throw perfectly good food out but I'm not sure how the cabbage would freeze and I'm not sure I want to freeze the cabbage because the cabbage is "old" (not bad). What if I picked the cabbage out and froze the chicken and broth? What do you think?
Mrs Mungo
I don't think cabbage would freeze well. I think fishing out the cabbage and freezing the rest is probably worth a try.
LucyStoner
Use the cabbage up by making spring rolls or a stirfry with noodles? Reseason, reinvent. ;)

Reseason, reinvent. ;) With cabbage that was already on the edge and has been cooked? I dunno...I make spring rolls with uncooked cabbage. Cabbage is cheap. I am not sure it would be worth it to me. But it might just be me. I can be a shade on the picky side.

I can be a shade on the picky side.I am probably one of the least picky eaters on the planet wrt leftovers and past date food. I assumed they were tired of the flavor, not that the cabbage was old. I have made all sorts of rolls and potstickers with leftover food. Frying covers up...a lot. If it were me, I'd be throwing some hot sauce on it and crunching it down with lunch or as a midnight snack. But again, I'm really not all that picky. Well about the date of food. I do have whole groups of food I don't really touch (milk, I'm looking at you.)
abba12
Extract the cabbage and put it in some mashed potato with some other stuff, fry it for some bubble and squeak! Then freeze the chicken and broth
Melissa in Australia
is the cabbage cooked? I have frozen cooked cabbage and it was fine.
plansrme
Could you extract the chicken and use it in a stir fry? and ditch the cabbage?
Cinder
Egg rolls!
Orthodox6
Toss the broth. Stir the poultry and vegetables into freshly-boiled ribbon noodles. Revive the flavors with a little of the original seasonings and herbs. If you don't want to do this today, then freeze the chicken and vegetables with only a very small quantity of the broth (to moisten with flavor when thawed later). Do not freeze pasta; works occasionally but is not reliable.
Cinder
I just remembered--lumpia freezes well. Years ago I had a friend who would go on lumpia-making binges. She would freeze them--uncooked (the filling was cooked, just not the roll after filling it)--in batches and give them out as gifts. :drool5:

My kids might like that but then again Grandma is the lumpia expert.

KatieJ
You can freeze cabbage. I would freeze it all for now, and redesign it when I thawed it out later on.
