ProudGrandma
you are patting yourself on the back for having your Christmas shopping done early, only to have you child say to you, "I forgot to put "x" on my Christmas list and I REALLY want it".....UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Catwoman
Happens. Every. Year. But if it just happened to you now, be grateful it was now instead of on Christmas Eve! :)
ProudGrandma
but now I feel like I should rearrange, change something up to include the desired gift...even though I KNOW full well, I can't afford to buy additional stuff and my kids don't need MORE...than what I already purchased. Sigh!
Cera
We have a Thanksgiving day Christmas list cutoff. If it isn't on the list by bedtime on Thanksgiving they know they probably won't get it. Neither Santa or I are last minute shoppers (builders).

thebacabunch
I have told my kids "put it on your birthday list.". End of story.
ProudGrandma
which works great except one of my children's birthday isn't until next fall...which is a long time to wait for a kid...and even an adult sometimes...but one of my kid's birthdays is in Feb...so that is a great solution for that child... clarkacademy
Christmas lists are ideas in this house there is no way I could fill every list!
ProudGrandma
I don't try to either...but what happened was she actually had a GREAT idea that I wish I could fill....but that is the way it is...a lesson to be learned too...we can't have everything we want....when we want it...she also gets an allowance...so usually my standard response is "save your money"....and that helps weed out the important things from the non-important too... Come on.... you know you want to cave... you want to go to the store and buy it for her right now.... Are you hypnotized yet? Are you ready to buy it? Because I always cave, and I would like some company. ;)

gardenmom5
Happens. Every. Year. But if it just happened to you now, be grateful it was now instead of on Christmas Eve! :) 1dd did that to me one year. two days before christmas, she told me 2dd needed a doll that 'looked like her' :bored: I managed to find one with curly reddish pigtails. but NEVER again. but now I feel like I should rearrange, change something up to include the desired gift...even though I KNOW full well, I can't afford to buy additional stuff and my kids don't need MORE...than what I already purchased. Sigh! ya know, you can't do everything. I know it's hard if they still belive in santa. if they don't, you can have the "reality bites" discussion about getting information in a timely manner - and sometimes if you're late, it doesn't happen. I have told my kids "put it on your birthday list.". End of story. 1dd has an art book she wanted. (she only had two things on her list.) it's out of stock. It may not even be in stock for her bd next month. I've got to look elsewhere. Christmas lists are ideas in this house there is no way I could fill every list! when my kids were young, they had lists that were "suggestions". now, I'm lucky if they give me suggestions or wants. my 7yo doesn't even have an inkling he can say what he wants for christmas. no, i take that back. He might say one thing to someone else, but not me. but I got him science kits - he should love them.
Word Nerd
you are patting yourself on the back for having your Christmas shopping done early, only to have you child say to you, "I forgot to put "x" on my Christmas list and I REALLY want it".....UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wouldn't know, as I've never had my shopping done early. I get really annoyed by the pressure to finish shopping ASAP, as if it's a race—especially by ads for "last-minute" deals. On December 7th? Really?!?
Alte Veste Academy
You know, I have very mixed feelings about this. I am an early shopper. I try to be done by Nov 30 so I can relax all of the Advent. But, if I am finished shopping by then, what have I really said to my kids? Be thinking of what you want before Thanksgiving for my convenience? Be thinking of yourself and your Christmas wishes well in advance of the holiday? Think of gifts before we even get to the point of Christmas at all? I have been where you are, OP. Sometimes, for something special, I will add or rearrange, mostly because I don't know that it is fair or proper to have my kids meet a deadline that is premature and completely oxymoronic to my reason for wanting to finish my shopping before Advent anyway. Can you return something else or hold back something you have already purchased for the next birthday?
