Favorite (non-electronic) games?

Recommended Posts

There are a lot of choices out there right now. Great question.

Before I answer something vague though, let me ask a few questions.

Who is the target audience? Just your little ones? Whole family? Just adults? Two player (mom and dad)? Some other combination?

Also, what kind of games do you already enjoy?

We game a lot. Its my husband's primary hobby right now. But there's a big difference in games which work for young ones and which work for adults. For instance, Animal Upon Animal is a balancing game which works well with young children or parents and children. Yesterday the older children played a cooperative fire fighter game called Flash Point. DH and I played Archaeology at the park on Sunday while watching the kids play. A more complex game with friends might be Dominion (a card accumulation game) or Stone Age.

We just ordered Tsuro, along with a couple others. I hear good things about it.

I saw Wil Wheaton play this on his web series TableTop and shocked my husband when I said "We need to get this game." (It's usually him saying we need to buy a game.)

I really like that it's easy to learn and doesn't take forever to set up and play like some of the other games in our collection. My in-laws enjoyed it and it was a nice change for all 7 of us to be able to play a "board" game together since you can have up to 8 players. As an added bonus, we like how the pieces feel.

I hope you enjoy it and the other games you picked. :001_smile:

Some of our favorites:

Carcassonne

:iagree:.

We love this game. It is different everytime you play it and you can play simple when playing with younger or use strategy with older players. My kids love it. My family combined two sets and used to play with 10 around the table night after night in summer.

We are on the lookout for some new games (board or card). We want games to play with the older girls, as well as games DW and I can play with just the two of us.

Any suggestions?

;)

Two player games to play just me and dw, as well as games to play with the whole family.

Dw enjoys Farkle, Phase 10, Cranium (green and blue cards), and Hand & Foot.

I enjoy Texas Hold Em, Monopoly, Chess, Cranium (Red and Yellow cards), and Scrabble.

With the girls we play Uno, Sorry, Go Fish, Chess (both dd6 and dd4 working on learning it), Battleship, Candyland, and Uno Moo. DD4 also LOVES puzzles (complex ones!).

We just recently bought Sorry and Battleship. We also ordered Tsuro, Settlers of Catan, and a puzzle game called Perplexus Original.
