Jean in Newcastle
and not only is it not first thing in the morning but you ate breakfast over an hour ago, do you take it now?
Spryte
I do. ;) Skipping an entire day, for me, is worse than taking it late and after breakfast. YMMV.
Peaceful Isle
yeah, I take it when I forget unless it is the night time. Then I just take it the next day. I tend to be a little tired for the next couple of days if that happens, but my body soon gets back up to normal.
Diann
Since I'm supposed to take it on an empty stomach, I usually wait until I'm hungry. Then, I take the pill, wait 30 min. or so, then eat. Diann

Lawana
If I know I can remember to take it on my next empty stomach, I'll wait until then. Otherwise I just go ahead and take it when I'm thinking about it. Even if it isn't absorbed quite as well as it would be on an empty stomach, it is better than not taking it at all. I took Synthroid for years before I knew I was supposed to take it on an empty stomach. I'd pop it with my morning cereal. Honestly, I couldn't tell any difference in how I felt once I started waiting to eat until an hour after I took it. So clearly, at least for me, I got virtually all the benefit even when taking it with food.
WiseOwlKnits
There's nothing magical about an empty stomach. My doctor has said that taking it with food causes slightly less to be absorbed. So if you do it a lot, you might need a slightly higher dose. But it's not going to cause a huge problem once in a while. :)

Jean in Newcastle
Thank you, everyone. By the time I took it, it had been over 2 hours since I ate. Don't know if that means my stomach was empty or not. For better or worse, I have at least some in my system!
Susan C.
Jean which type do you take? I was always told 30 min. before or two hours after a meal.

Jean in Newcastle
Jean which type do you take? I was always told 30 min. before or two hours after a meal. natural thyroid - basically Armour thyroid.
LisaBoo
I would take it as well, if I missed mine. The alternative is worse.
TranquilMind
and not only is it not first thing in the morning but you ate breakfast over an hour ago, do you take it now? No. The natural thyroid brands (Erfa, Armour, Naturethroid, etc) have a very long half-life, like weeks. A day will not make a difference. It is also absorbed better and more quickly if you take it under your tongue (crush it a bit). I think the capsules and compounded type from pharmacies is better because the powder can just be poured out of the capsule directly under the tongue. (Synthetics may be different so YMMV).
