  1. This gives a good basic description of the differences between engineering and engineering technology. It also mentions possible career paths. http://www.abet.org/engineering-vs-engineering-technology/
  2. He could investigate engineering technology degrees. They are less mathematically intensive and more hands-on. There are 2-year and 4-year options. My ds is currently pursuing a Mechanical Engineering Technology degree. Good luck to your son! Diann
  3. Like PP I use both. I like an electonic calendar for appointments, but for planning, I use paper. There is something about writing it down that is not only satisfying to me, but also helps me remember it. Plus, I love putting a check mark next to the things I've accomplished. I have been using a bullet journal for the last year, but am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my Erin Condren planner. I like the bullet journal idea, but wanted a planner that had all the months laid out for me. Diann
  4. I agree with the PP that this is not new. I'm 54 and have an uncommon spelling of Diane. I always have to spell my name to others, but I'm never bothered by it. Unique spellings are just that, unique. Diann
  5. Germantown Commissary. Allow plenty of time if you will be there during regular meal times because they will be busy. Diann
  6. I was diagnosed with MVP in my teens. I take a beta-blocker to control the fluttering feeling. Otherwise, I don't have any issues. Mine is not bad enough that I'm required to take antibiotics for dental procedures. I get an echo done about every 4 years to check on it. Diann
  7. I am so sorry you are having to make this decision. We had our 14 yo Doberman put down on June 18. He was an awesome dog, and we loved him so much. His problems were almost exactly the same as you are facing. In addition, he had cancer, but it was slow growing. I agree with the others, that you need to have a long talk with your vet. See what your options are. There were two things that made us decide to put him down. First, he was needing help all the time to get up and had a difficult time walking once he was up. Second, the spine issue caused him pain when we touched him. It didn't matter where we petted him, he would flinch. That just broke my heart. It is an extremely difficult decision to make, and I will be thinking of you and your family. Diann
  8. We have had this issue with my father. He lives in FL, and the rest of us are scattered around the country. Long distance care is extremely difficult. My sister and I have been trading off flying down there every month. We have been doing this for a year. We have decided, enough is enough. My father will be moving to an assisted living facility in my city. Managing his care will be so much easier. This may sound mean, but we just told my father he had to move. Trying to keep him in FL and manage his care, home, etc. has become a logistical nightmare, even with local help. Plus, getting a last minute plane ticket because something has happened that needs our immediate attention is expensive. I know some PP have said they wouldn't want someone making decisions for them at that stage of their life, but otoh, my father's care has become a major part of my family's life. I have been away from home so much over the last year. My siblings and I had to consider the impact this has made on all of our lives, not just our father's. I wish you the best, Laura, with your decision. Diann
  9. I would choose breakfast. I always have coffee with my breakfast, but I need food in the morning more than I need caffeine. I wake up every morning hungry, and if I don't eat, I end up with a headache and no energy. Diann
  10. We replaced our old system with a Trane and have been very pleased. That was about 8 years ago.
  11. I found adding the 4th was much easier than the 3rd. Dividing my time between 3 was harder for me to learn, but once I did, adding a 4th was easy. Diann
  12. You don't need a Kindle to read a Kindle book. You can use the Kindle app on an iPad or Android device. Android tablets are more versatile than the Kindle Fire and are in the $200 range. Two of my children have the Google Nexus 7. It's basically just like my iPad. Diann
  13. I have flown US Airways several times over the last year. I've had no issues. Nothing fancy, but no delays, polite attendants, etc. I flew Southwest once, but didn't care for the unassigned seating. Otherwise, the flights were fine. Flying into Atlanta should give you many options. Diann
  14. We have 2 Dodge Grand Caravans, a 1997 and a 2008. Both have been exceptional. No major issues. We have always kept to the maintenance schedule, so maybe that has helped us. Both of these vans are used for daily commutes as well as long trips. Diann
  15. I was on a jury for a DUI case about a year ago. I was glad to be chosen and enjoyed the experience. There is a lot of waiting, so be prepared for that. The court may have a dress code; we were not allowed to wear shorts, sleeveless shirts/dresses, jeans or capris. Diann
  16. Thank you for taking the time to update all of us. I had been wondering how the family was doing. Diann
  17. I have worn progressives for several years. The first pair took me about a week to get used to. New prescriptions don't really require any adjustment period. Give yourself a little more time, and you should be fine. Diann
  18. We have two Dodge Grand Caravans, a 1997 and a 2008. Love them both. Quiet, comfortable for long trips, plenty of space for our family of 6 plus a Doberman. We have never had transmission issues, but have followed the recommended maintenance schedule and used the proper transmission fluid. We bought the '97 new; the '08 had 42,000 miles on it. Diann
