Mrs Twain
I was reading through old threads, and I came across a recommendation of this website for music appreciation. It is an NPR show called "Classics for Kids." http://www.classicsforkids.com/shows/collections.asp It is free. All you need to do is listen to the lessons. They are entertaining, too! It certainly doesn't cover everything one would want to teach to make a complete music appreciation course, but it is a great start and very easy to implement. LolaT
This looks great. I wish it didn't require Flash so I could do it on the iPad. There's even worksheets!
EmilyK
We have used this a lot. You used to be able to download them -- I'm not sure that's available now. You can subscribe to the podcast on itunes. I've never used the worksheets and other resources but they look good.

Nestof3
Some of my in-depth studies of period music -- Baroque and Classical -- have used this website. If you are interested in downloading the pdf lesson plans, they are on the left-hand side of my blog: Or, here are links: Baroque http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/2004891/baroque-composer-study-pdf-june-23-2010-9-04-pm-66k?da=y Classical http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/2989048/classical-composer-study-pdf-july-15-2011-6-29-pm-261k?da=y

Would you mind sharing what you do? Oooh, I didn't even know they made an educator's edition! I have this one.. http://www.harmonicvision.com/madfact.htm and it's just 36 lessons and I was going to have her do 1/wk. I don't have any reinforcement worksheets or review or anything to go with it. I assume you have Music Ace that's just 24 weeks + whatever came in the educator's packet?? That would be rather awkward to schedule. . I use a 36-38 week schedule(depending on how many short weeks I have.. like Thanksgiving week). So if it's just 24 weeks, maybe break it up into 4 week chunks with a review week after? so 30 weeks total? Or 3 week chunks with 8 review weeks for a total of 32 weeks? Or even 2 week chunks with 12 "review" weeks for a total of 36... and use the review weeks to "test" their progress with the games and activities in the educator materials? I don't know and it's late so I hope this #1 makes sense and #2 maybe helps some:001_smile:

I think I just always find it difficult to hand out computer assignments -- perhaps because they are more independent? My version has 48 lessons with a few handouts and certificates. I am sure it's what my piano teacher uses when she offers a computer lab (for a fee). It is this one: http://www.harmonicvision.com/mamfact.htm I think I used a coupon for $30 off. Lessons Combines the 48 lessons of Music Ace and Music Ace 2 into a single product. Combines the 48 lessons of Music Ace and Music Ace 2 into a single product. LOL) but I did worry that my dd might be missing out on content with the 36 week one versus the 2 24 week ones. In the end, I decided that it was okay for us because she doesn't take music lessons or anything .. it's just a class because I used to play and think she should be acquainted with how music is written. I'd probably just use it over 2 years.. but if your dc are taking lessons maybe you want to speed that up. Whatever way you want to schedule it, your dc should get a very good musical foundation! :D
