Need an easy-to-teach board game for a group of teen/pre-teen boys

Recommended Posts

Ds14 is having a patrol party (Scouts) at our house tomorrow, and the weather looks like it won't allow them to do frisbee/catch at the park. So we're going to order pizza at home (with salad, fruit, and dessert on the side) and are trying to figure out what to do with a bunch of boys for 4 hours. Any game suggestions for large groups that don't involve complex strategy or instructions?

What do you have available to you?

There is a pen and paper game called Eat Poop You Cat (among other things) that might be fun. Its a bit like Telephone.

Everyone gets a piece of paper.

You fold it into sections (fourths, eighths, something).

In the first section everyone draws a picture.

Pass the paper to the right.

Look at the picture. Fold it over so the picture doesn't show. In the space below write what the picture is about in a single sentence or phrase.

Pass to the right.

Look at the sentence. Fold it over so it doesn't show. Underneath, draw a picture of what that sentence describes.

Repeat writing a sentence for picture instructions.

Repeat drawing a picture of sentence instructions.

Repeat until paper is full. Read out loud.

It gets totally crazy really fast. My husband and I play this game with paper place mats at restaurants. You could break the boys into smaller groups to make it easier.

They enjoy Scattergories and Pictionary, but when a group of their friends come over Catchphrase has always been the biggest hit (we prefer and recommend the electronic version).

These are all good for groups too, I agree.

The only problem with Apples to Apples is that there are a lot of cards that kids don't get.
