Sandy in Indy Posted June 8, 2008 Share Posted June 8, 2008 Ugh...my nephew called today and told me about a "great" movie site. Curious, I clicked on it...mainly to see if I thought it was legal. BIG, BIG, BIG mistake. I'd let the virus/spyware expire on our main computer (which is, of course, the computer I was using at the time). In seconds, I had a major infestation...as in black bugs crawling across the screen. Fortunately, I had all my files saved on an external drive that was off and safe--so I thought. When my computer guru showed up to fix the computer, we turned the drive on to make sure I had all the files off the main drive. Somehow in the repair process, my drive was overwritten and ALL my files are gone. Guru is coming back tomorrow and hopefully can recover the data. I hadn't copied it to CD...I had two copies and thought that was enough. Lost BOTH of them in the same day. I'm just sick...sick, sick, sick. All of my school stuff...scads of downloads of materials I hadn't even used yet. All of our business tax records. All of the written materials for the hs group I lead. Valerie in Chicago Posted June 8, 2008 Share Posted June 8, 2008 Oh, that swallowed-a-rock feeling!!! Poor thing. I really hope it's all recovered. Can I make a suggestion? We've been using carbonite.com and loving it. All the storage you can use in a remote server, saves things automatically, easy to dowload onto a new/repaired computer...
