Cindyg
There are two people I want to send money to. One is my dh's very elderly grandfather. He doesn't want any *things*. The other is a friend/family who simply needs cash. I don't want to send a gift card in the mail (because if it's stolen, it's just like cash). Grandpa certainly wouldn't know how to do anything electronic; but I guess I could Paypal my friend the money. Suggestions?
ThisIsTheDay
No, I don't think it's tacky. In the case of the grandfather, I'd just include a note, "We're enclosing a check to give you a little extra spending money for something special that you might enjoy." He's of an older generation, and I'd just include the note for reasons I can't articulate well tonight. :001_smile:
Cindyg
Oh, I forgot to say -- these would be going in the mail with Christmas cards. So, not totally impersonal.
happypamama
Not tacky, IMO! I think it's sweet. We've received checks as Christmas gifts before, from friends and from relatives, and we've appreciated them.
Mommy22alyns
Gosh, no! My aunt & grandma send me a check every year and it is MUCH appreciated! :D

Down_the_Rabbit_Hole
Another for the "not tacky" vote. I plan on doing this for my dad and grandmother.
Tabrett
Not tacky at all. I prefer a check over most gifts. That way I can get what I really want/need.:D
thescrappyhomeschooler
Perfectly fine.
Trish
A lot of gift cards get lost/misplaced/forgotten about. Or it isn't the right time to go to that store when you remember them. A check is great!
Kalypso
I love getting checks in the mail. :)
*********
Who wouldn't like to get a check! Not tacky at all. If you saw them in person, you'd give cash. But because you have to mail it, you do a check. Easy Peasy.
Tarreymere
Oh heck no, I think it is a wonderful gift. We've gotten a check for a gift a time or two and been very happy.

My grandmother and aunt have sent us checks in the mail with Christmas cards for years. They just tell us to pick out what we want/need with the money, since they don't see the kids often enough to really know what they want/need. Just tell him to use the money for something special he wants or needs, or that you wanted to let him choose or something like that.
AlmiraGulch
I just sent a check to my brother and his family for Christmas. It was perfect for them.
