Hoggirl
I ordered a jacket on-line which is cotton velveteen with a wee bit of spandex. It came rather wrinkled. I don't own a steamer. Should I turn it inside out to iron it? Or should I hold my iron above it and just press the steam button?
HayesW
Dryer on low heat with a damp washcloth would work for me.
mcconnellboys
Well, you used to be able to iron velvet, but with materials being so flimsy today, I think I'd try a spot inside a hem first, to make sure your setting does okay.... AuntieM
Do you have a tea kettle? You could steam it the old fashioned way.
AlmiraGulch
Steam definitely works best on velvet.

Mrs Mungo
:iagree: Or hang it on the shower rod while you take a very hot shower. This is what I do.

The only way velvet is ever ironed - at least in my recollection - is overturned on a special board with teeth to keep the nap from being smashed, regardless of fiber. I would do the dryer or shower thing. You *can* hang it and use the steam from your iron, but it doesn't work as well and takes for.ev.er.
Bang!Zoom!
Cruise around this site a bit. You have not pure velvet, but a blend. That spandex is plastic while your velvet is cotton. Each material is calling for a different method of pressure, weight and steam. This site will detail it out for you. You can make your own "ham" also. http://www.fashion-era.com/velvets/velvet_sewing_tips.htm
Harriet Vane
Definitely steam. I have a handheld steamer that works wonders. However, you should be able to use a teapot and a soft brush. Steam the area, then quick use the brush to raise the fibers.
Hoggirl
Haven't had a chance to look at the linked website, but I will. Think I will start with steam from the shower. That seems the easiest. Although I like that dryer idea as well! Cool! Thanks!
