Laurie
I think by now they're running out of things to study. Here's front page news this morning about how you can turn dumpster diving into a doctoral thesis: "For his doctoral thesis, the University of Washington student is examining how cultural assumptions of what is appetizing lead to the disposal of surplus, edible foods." http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2016683424_dumpster04m.html
TravelingChris
In studying people, there is always enough to study. The experiments he supposedly did but now admits he didn;t could have been real studies. I mean maybe people are more likely to think someone is dangerous in a messy environment that in a clean area. This could be an important thing to study, like our people too likely to be unwary of strange or suspicious behavior if they are in a well kept area versus in a messy area. I think that actually the opposite may be true- that strange or suspicious behavior would be more remarkable in a place where such behavior is very unusual and less likely to raise suspicions in an area which you feel is populated by more criminals/homeless/what have you. I know this isn't what he studied- in fact, he apparently studied nothing and made fake proclamations- but it is similar to something he claimed to study- how people regarded those who are different from them in nice surroundings versus messy surroundings. This guy is not a nut. Scientists who fabricate data are very sane lowlife. And it's not drivel. Drivel is harmless. Imagine how many grad students currently have him as an advisor and how many others graduated under him. This is direct harm done to people he knows, aside from the general dousing of fabricated fuel on the conflicts within racism, food purity, etc. This is what this guy wanted to make a name for himself. Scientists who fabricate data are lowlife.
gardenmom5
oh, gee, what a surprise. he's not the first "scientist" to fake data, and I'm positive he won't be the last. I agree with Mirth - "scientists" that fake data do much harm and damage to *real* people
