DB in NJ
she's almost 17. I'm thinking stuff like the "cereal killer" or "smarty pants" but I can't remember anymore, and I can't remember exactly what to do for those 2 either. Maybe I just need more coffee ;)

Lang Syne Boardie
My son once went as a Ceiling Fan. I used fabric paint on a t-shirt and sweatband. The shirt said, "Ceilings 2009 Athletic Department" on the front, and "BLADE # 5" on the back. His sweatband said "Go Ceilings!" He had a giant foam finger on one hand and a pompom sticking out of his back pocket.
iona
Cut eyeholes in an old sheet...also great for anonymity. Wear all black, or at least a black shirt and find kitty ears and paint on whiskers. vampire teeth work with any outfit for an incognito vampire. The teeth can be cumbersome though for talking. The kitty route would provide the most mobility.
kewb
Static cling works for all ages. Just apply mismatched socks in a few spots on the clothes.

Pink Fairy
My dd is going as Yenta from Fiddler on the Roof. Cane (a dowel from the sliding glass door), black scarf (borrowed from Grandma), black cloak (from last year's Joan of Arc costume), and black clothing (already in the closet). She also does the walk and the Yenta-isms--"Not every woman is a Yenta!"--so it's very entertaining.
plansrme
Witch doctor: doctor's coat or scrubs, witch's hat. Spelling bee: bee wings, antenna, random letters all over. Tornado: pieces from a toy farm set randomly pinned on; batting stretched out to be storm clouds. Toddlers and Tiaras contestant. My daughter went last year as Miss (insert our neighborhood name here) and was the hit of our n'hood party. Terri
MamaAkins
Mad Scientist....wear a white lab coat, goggles, carry a beaker with some bubbling potion in it. Pig in a Blanket....wear a pig nose and wrap yourself in a blanket.
itsheresomewhere
Take a box and cut out arms, legs and a head holes. Then make it look like a wood crate. Next write FRAGILE on it. Then you are the movie "A Christmas Story ". Edited October 25, 2011 by itsheresomewhere
mooooom
Where's Waldo this year - he already wears glasses, so we took a white shirt and used red duct tape for stripes, and a red hat I found at Target for $3 with a white pompom added. My favorite costume ever was a girl I saw wearing a pink sweatsuit with a sneaker on her head. She was the gum stuck to the bottom of your shoe. She could also go as a tourist w/ a Hawaiin shirt, shorts, sandals and a camera around her neck.
Spryte
Freudian Slip - wear a slip (could put something underneath it, of course!) with Freudian slips written out all over it.
ChrissySC
Try these ... http://www.halloween.com/halloween-costume-quick-ideas.php http://familycrafts.about.com/od/costumeideas/tp/fastcostume.htm I like the grapes on these images ... they dressed in a single color and used balloons for the grapes. http://www.google.com/search?q=quick+halloween+costumes&hl=en&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-Address&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=cSqnTuTyBMTAgQfqqYQj&ved=0CHwQsAQ&biw=1006&bih=
