K&Rs Mom
I didn't know what kind of peppers I had (from our CSA box, just said "hot peppers") and my salsa is too hot. I will add more tomatoes, to dilute the whole thing, but are there any other tricks? Thanks! (btw, typing with burning fingers, because I also didn't know they were the kind of peppers that need gloves when you cut them:tongue_smilie:)
Mrs Mungo
Did you remove all of the seeds and ribs?
KungFuPanda
I'd just make a second batch of salsa without the peppers and blend in the hot batch until you get the flavor you want. You can use the surplus to make chili if you need to use it up.
K&Rs Mom
Did you remove all of the seeds and ribs? Probably 90% - they were tiny, so some got through.

Chili is a good idea too - thanks!

Yeah, if the chiles are that hot, then I would make more salsa and mix in the hot batch.

gardenmom5
sugar (believe it or not, it really works. depends upon how much cooling it needs)
Daisy
We got serranos in our box this week. They are long and thin. Anyway, the only way I know to dilute the heat in salsa without altering the taste is to double the batch leaving out peppers.
solascriptura
:iagree:with all the above. But about the burning fingers, try rubbing toothpaste on them. It seemed to work.
JumpedIntoTheDeepEndFirst
sugar (believe it or not, it really works. depends upon how much cooling it needs) Yes-adding sugar or blending with a batch made without peppers. Or maybe both.

K&Rs Mom
You ladies are great - thanks. I made more with no peppers & mixed it all in, now waiting for it to sit a while to blend together. Hopefully that works. And now I have a truly giant bowl of salsa - anyone local come over & share!
Unicorn.
Next time, try cutting a potato in halfs or quarters, and throwing that in for awhile. I have friends that swear it removes some of the heat.
