Hikin' Mama
$25 per graduate. I was at a graduation party a couple years ago, and a friend of mine asked how much I gave. When I told her, she thought that was generous, as she had given him less. I think each person should give what they feel they can, and if the recipient doesn't like it, that is their problem. Although, I think any cash is always welcome by someone graduating from high school. :D
Mom2legomaniacs
Can you do a basket with some dorm essentials in it? Like some desk supplies maybe? I do that often. It can add up, so you could pick a small basket. And cash or a gift card would always be welcome.
klmama
I generally give cash - $20 - and, if I can find one, a copy of How to Study in College, even if it's used (but clean). It's a book I didn't discover until after I had completed college, and I wished I had read it before my freshman year!
Tammyla
We've had a number of friends graduating and most need money in any amount. However, a gift card to Barnes & Nobel, Target, Amazon etc. were also welcomed and requested.
Diana in OR
How about a gift card to a store or restaraunt within walking distance of where they will be attendiing college?
AndyJoy
A cute thing I've done before is to give the graduate $20.08 for graduating in 2008. I got this idea from someone else a few years ago.
Philothea
I'd give them advice on how to save money on textbooks, plus a giftcard to Amazon.com (I get so many of my college texts there much cheaper than used in the bookstore)
Jackie in AR
I only give $25 per graduate. I was at a graduation party a couple years ago' date=' and a friend of mine asked how much I gave. Anne
Another budget idea is a $10 gift certificate to a local coffee shop. Even if they don't like coffee, they almost certainly like something else the shop sells. Anne
lv2sing
You all are very generous. I am impressed. This year I got take out looking boxes, put real fortune cookies in them, made my own fortunes from quotes and Bible verses and put a check in the box with pretty paper among the little colorful "fortunes". I think I will do the How to study in college book next year tho. Sounds simpler. Ronda
