Will you compare Netflix Streaming with Amazon Prime for me?

Recommended Posts

I have Amazon Prime for the shipping. The selection of instant movies is nothing compared to Netflix. (I think their end goal is to be competitive with Netflix, but it will take a while.) If you are just wanting streaming videos, Netflix is a much better choice.

I agree. I don't normally watch much on instant streaming, but dh does and he's searched Amazon a couple times and never found anything he wanted to watch. Netflix seems to have a much better selection.

I haven't found anything available at Amazon that isn't already available at Netflix. I guess that is going to be the case for a while.

Now, sometimes I find something on Amazon that I didn't find on Netflix. Sometimes Netflix search engine leave a lot to be desired.

I think I once streamed something on Amazon and didn't find the quality to be as good as with Netflix but I wouldn't really make a decision based on only that one thing.

Amazon Prime has fewer movies and lower resolution (which only matters if you have an HD TV). There's no system for queuing, and the interface is at present clunky. While I'm betting there are going to be dramatic improvements in the future, Amazon is still not quite ready for prime time, so to speak.

I very rarely find anything on Amazon Instant and the free Prime is even more useless. In fact, just today I was looking for something about a particular historical period and came up with absolutely nothing but, get this, pornography. Their search engine is TERRIBLE. I clicked on documentaries under the Instant section and got so much garbage I had to cover the screen and exit out. And, except for some tv show episodes that I have bought, there is really nothing but junk. They have a very long way to go if the goal is to compete with Netflix.

Whew, glad to hear this (that Netflix Streaming is so much better). I switched to Amazon Mom Prime, which paid for itself immediately, but I lost the ability to do Amazon streaming. This makes me feel a little better, as I do have Netflix Streaming. :)

We do however use Discovery Streaming almost everyday, and Netflix Streaming just a few times a month. If something is available on both, I'd prefer to watch HD on Netflix Streaming though!

I can buy complete seasons of Little Bear on amazon instant, and I haven't seen it elsewhere. Do I need to have prime to purchase this and view through roku? I'm glad to read this thread too since I've been trying to figure out which would be better.

No. Amazon offers a limited amount of streaming content free of charge to Prime members. You can watch paid content with the Roku, Prime or no.
