tammyw
Just wanted to share some of our favorite true life animal stories. I really love these stories, but I always feel sad too. Especially because we desperately want a cat (we currently have no pets) but we are renting at the moment and our landlord won't allow one :( Would love to know if anyone else has others to share :) The Two Bobbies - about a dog and a cat surviving Hurricane Katrina. Go Home! True Story of James the Cat - so sad, but has a happy ending. Nubs: The True Story of a Mutt, a Marine & a Miracle - hits home because my husband is in the Marines; I emailed the man from the story as he lives in San Diego. He is currently on deployment but we might get to meet him and his dog Nubs this summer! Margo out of lurking
Oh, any of the sweet, sweet animal stories by Thornton Burgess. A few of them are free online. We moved to a small town, and when I found these in the library, I literally cried tears of joy.:001_wub:

Negin
Some of these may have already been mentioned. Sorry, I'm in a bit of a hurry. we've loved, loved, loved these true stories - they're a series Other animal books that we've really loved - if you search any of these on amazon, you'll come up with other great recommendations, which I'm sure you already know . James Herriott's Treasury for Children - he might be able to read them by himself. Ds has read these over and over. Molly the Pony Ones we've heard good things about: 14 Cows for America - have heard good things about it Tara and Bella How One Little Polar Bear
Mama Geek
There are several books on Amazon about Balto. He was one of the dogs that helped to deliver diphtheria serum to Nome Alaska.
creekland
Champion Dog Prince Tom was one of my favorites as a young child. My boys loved it too. According to Amazon it's: "the true story of a most unique, award-winning cocker spaniel dog that was truly amazing"
Cinder
We've also enjoyed some of these titles--dd is a big animal lover. We've also read James Herriot's collection of Favorite Cat Stories from the adult section at the library. We have Favorite Dog Stories in our basket to read next. For those of you that love Knut, did you know he recently died? :crying:
Chris in VA
Lad, A Dog by Terhune is one of my favorites. It's said that, after Lad died, another dog in the house would walk around the place Lad used to lay, as if he were still there.

For those of you that love Knut, did you know he recently died? :crying: I posted about Knut a while back, when he first died. I was surprised at how sad I felt when I heard. It's amazing how attached we can get to animals in these stories :( I'm going to look up Favorite Cat Stories - thanks!
tammyw
if you search any of these on amazon, you'll come up with other great recommendations, which I'm sure you already know . I use Amazon as one of my main research tools  In fact, I don't know what I'd do if Amazon ever went out of business! In looking up something else, a book just came up on my radar at Amazon - Jenny and the Cat Club (looks like there are a bunch). Has anyone read these? Our library doesn't have any of them, but they look quite interesting.
tammyw
I should probably add animal movies that touched me also - we recently saw Hachi a Dog's Tale (inspired by the book, which we got from the library but didn't have time to read). That movie was so good but so VERY sad, that I cried like a baby for a good while.

Has anyone read these? Our library doesn't have any of them, but they look quite interesting. I haven't read that book, but someone on the Sonlight forums heartily recommended it. I've added that book to my Amazon list on her recommendation.
