Vida Winter
All day today, my teenage daughter has had a sore throat, headache, etc. - normal cold symptoms. I just took her temp. (three times) and it is 94. The kids and I always run "low" but this seems really low. Does this happen to anyone else?
Ellie
Happens to me all the time.

KidsHappen
Me too. Once when I went to the dr., then nurse took me temp three times and everytime it came up 94 and then finally said, "This darn thing must be broken or you would be dead." I told her that not that was not unusual for me to which she replied it wasn't possible. :glare: I took my temp every single morning for years. I hit 94 more than once and rarely went above 97. One hundred would be very high for me.
cindergretta
I had never heard of this until this week. And then I met several people who all run low and dip lower when ill. So apparently, it is not only possible, but common for some. :grouphug:
rootsnwings
Low body temp can be associated with hypo-thyroidism, too. She may need to have her thyroid levels checked. Hope she feels better soon!!
AngieW in Texas
I have had this happen to me. I'll have all the symptoms of hypothermia. As soon as my body temperature goes back up to normal again, I'm fine. I've had the thyroid tests done several times and I'm not anywhere near borderline. I don't understand it. When this happens to me the only symptoms I have are symptoms that are caused by low body temperature.
Barbara
This happens to my teen dd when she is sick. Last time it happened, I was worried because she was so sick and had a low body temp. I call the dr.'s office and spoke with the nurse. She said to eat bananas. She said "I don't know why it works, but it does"....it did work for us. Hope she feels better soon. Jen in PA
I run low, and even a temperature of 99 degrees can make me feel awful. Even when my thyroid meds seem right, my temp does not go above 97 unless I am ill, and is usually somewhere between 95 and 96.
Mergath
The kind of thermometer you use makes a difference, too. My baseline temp is lower by at least a degree when I use the kind you rub across your forehead.
mcconnellboys
Yes! There are several viruses around now that cause this, or so says our doctor....
