hsmom
In your opinion which ones are best. I need an all around good one. One that can be used for many things and really holds up. There are so many options out there, marble, wood with and without handles, non stick, metal, metal you fill with cold water, the list goes on and on and on. Please help. hsmom
French Rolling Pin So, these are not hard to use?
gardening momma
I would be no help here--my first rolling pin was a really cheap one, maybe $2, and it had splinters. So I threw it out and got a slightly more expensive one, and that one is fine. So that's what I've had for the last 10+ years. (a standard wood one with handles)
hsmom
Well I did order a standard one with handles, good weight, that is 18" and has bearings for now. Yet still in the market for another, just cause some work better for certain things than others right?
JoyfulMama
I have dh's grandmother's old wooden with handles, and my mother's old Tupperware plastic that I can fill with ice water. I grab the wooden one the most, however when I am doing pie dough, I really do prefer the cold one, as the crust turns out flakier. I don't make too make cut-out cookies at my house, but if I were to make certain ones at my house I'd definately reach for the ice-filled one, as warming the dough isn't always good. hsmom
Now I want an ice filled one. My kids had me buy all kinds of cookie cutters for the holidays. Off to go look.

justamouse
I have one from williams sonoma-cherrywood, I believe? It's just a long straight hunk of wood. No curving, no handles. I've had it for years and don't need anything else.
gardening momma
If I were to get a 2nd rolling pin, it would be one without handles, probably not the curved kind. Sometimes when I'm rolling something out with my wood pin with handles, my hands get in the way, so one w/o handles would come in handy sometimes. rwjx2khsmj
I love my marble rolling pin. Way back when, it had wooden handles. They broke off about twelve years ago and I like it even better without handles.
