AuntieM
How have you used it? Amount, straight or in something?
Nicole M
I assume you mean for yourself? When my youngest was little, we put about a tablespoon of blackstrap molasses in goat milk and he drank that warm. That's about 8 million calories, though. I did a quick google search and found this: http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/molasses.html Other recipes seem to also call for a tablespoon / day for iron deficiency. kamom
To up my iron level during my last pregnancy I mixed one lagre spoonful into a cup of warm milk, then added another tspoon of cocoa powder. I found it really masked the mol flavor. I found it a very relaxing bedtime drink.
Cedarmom
I did that too, but then I was told the calcium in my rice milk interfered with the absorption of iron. Then I took it straight-but that's not very tasty.
Quad Shot Academy
I have also heard that 1 T. a day is good. Chlorophyl and Alfalfa are other whole food ways to boost iron too.
dancer67
I take two TBSP of Unsulphered Black Strap Molasses a day. I am Iron Deficient Anemic. It really helps. I take it straight from the spoon. But not everyone can handle the taste. You can put it in tea if you want, or even bake with it if you cannot stand the taste. jld
If you're just looking for an iron supplement, you may want to consider the homeopathic remedy ferrum phosphorus. I lost a lot of blood after my first delivery, and after taking 3 tablets a few times a day, within a few weeks my blood was rich in iron. Chelle in MO
Is mixed w/butter and spread on a homemade buttermilk biscuit a healthy option? ;) It's my favorite way to eat molasses. Oh, and in the cookies my mom makes at Christmas--mmmmmmm...
stripe
I thought molasses was a great iron supplement, but I started to wonder, based on the info on the label, if it really is as rich as I thought?
Gwenhwyfar
it's also yummy on eggos/etc instead of syrup. :D (or just right off the spoon!) i'm kinda curious now if anyone else grew up eating the pb & molasses sandwiches... we ate them all the time! (along with pb&honey)
OrganicAnn
I put a tablespoon in homemade bread especially whole wheat. I'm sure there are lots of ways you can slip it into things.
Peela
Ever since dancer67 mentioned it I have been eating it off the spoon :)
dancer67
Ever since dancer67 mentioned it I have been eating it off the spoon :) Oh goody, another brave soul!!:lol: And I just had my hemoglobin level checked at the GYN, it went from 12.1 to 12.8 in only a month:D Hopefully, when I get a blood draw at the hematologist next month, it will be up even more. And my hair stopped falling out and my natural color stays longer now. (And I add in Floradix as well, love that stuff!!) Peela, that HAIR is gorgoeous!! MyLittleWonders
I love molasses off the spoon too!
smrtmama
Used it during my first pregnancy, 2-3 spoonfuls a day. You need blackstrap molasses, though, to get the iron.
