thescrappyhomeschooler
This is what my 7 yr. old asked me yesterday. I laughed, and quickly said, "No, you will definitely want to go AWAY for college when the time comes."
Mommyfaithe
Maybe.....maybe not... My kids did sort of homeschool their first semester of college, except oldest because online was not available at that time. My next 2 both did online classes through the CC their first semester because they were not driving yet and the school was (is) 45 minutes away. Too much driving for this Mom. The following semesters they went to CC and then transferred off to AWAY schools once they had their Associates degrees. My 2nd dd did many online courses throughout CC because she wanted more time to work and be home. We found the online classes much more rigorous than the in class classes. Who knows, by the time these little guys grow up, online college mught be quite the norm. :D Faithe
SquirrellyMama
This is what my 7 yr. old asked me yesterday. I laughed, and quickly said, "No, you will definitely want to go AWAY for college when the time comes." My 9 yr old asked me this question. I said, "No, you must leave the house at some point." I'm fine with some online courses but not all of college at home.

I laughed, and quickly said, "No, you will definitely want to go AWAY for college when the time comes." My ds7 wants to HS for college too. I think it's a hoot! I don't have a problem with the kids living with us while in college though, so far. We'll see how things go between now and then.
Mom-ninja.
My 6 yr old told me he was going to need a bigger bed in his room. When I asked him why he told me because when he's grown up and married the bed he has now won't be big enough for both his wife and him.
MomsintheGarden
Come on to the high school and college boards anytime you like. There are lots of us there whose students are doing quite a bit of college at home. I agree with the above posters that things are bound to change a lot before your 7yo is ready for college. My guess is that it will be more common then. :001_smile: GardenMom
bettyandbob
My oldest asked the same thing when he was 7. I immediately responded no and suggested looking at colleges in Western Canada (we live in Virginia). Now that ds is a junior in high school he has no interested in homeschooling college, but we are looking at schools in Virginia.
Pamela H in Texas
My daughter is a junior in college....from home. Part of that is because of when she started, but part of that is circumstance and personality driven also. I see nothing wrong with it. I cannot imagine ds making the same decision though! I told him he would have to go to college, but if that is what he really ends up doing, he can come back home and live on the farm FOREVER!! Unicorn.
I laughed, and quickly said, "No, you will definitely want to go AWAY for college when the time comes." Tell that to my 12 yo. She wants to be homeschooled for college too. :tongue_smilie:
kfeusse
This is what my 7 yr. old asked me yesterday. I laughed, and quickly said, "No, you will definitely want to go AWAY for college when the time comes." my 8 year old asked me that too...I told him when he was ready for college we would talk about it again, until then, don't worry about it. He was happy with my answer. I laughed too...KNOWING that by then, he would be ready to leave home....if not before. But I thought it was cute and cool that he actually thinks he will WANT to be home at that point.

gingersmom
My 11 year old has no intention of going away for college. Or moving out of the house at all. :glare: My 14 year old plans on going away and then moving back home. I have very strange children. :001_smile:

Jayne J
My ds has informed me that he is going to build a castle in the back yard for himself and his wife. He will be married when he is grown--about 18 or so he thinks. I presume his wife will homeschool him through college.
thescrappyhomeschooler
Well, if ds can get his wife to homeschool college, I guess I'd be okay with that!:lol: Kids are so cute.
