Jane
I've gone through WAY too many timers. They all break within weeks. I need a more dependable timer for our daily drills. Any suggestions?
2_girls_mommy
I bought mine at the Dollar Tree, so I don't know if it qualifies as good, but it is the same one I started w/3 yrs ago, and it has been dropped many times, and still works. It also doubles as the "time out" timer, so it has had plenty of use over the years :0 I have a second one on hand in case one breaks, so that I don't ever go w/out one, but so far, so good. You can't beat the price either.
LadyAberlin
I just use my watch. It has a timer on it.
yslek
I have several of these: http://www.amazon.com/Taylor-Digital-Minute-Second-Timer/dp/B0007NIIOU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1256666424&sr=8-1 My problem hasn't been so much breakage as losing the stupid things. :glare:

(sigh) Please, don't tell me the brand name on yours is "Taylor" as these are the ones that keep stopping on me and I *never* drop mine. They just stop working shortly after they are purchased. 2_girls_mommy
I just looked at it to try to help w/the brand name, but it is from the Dollar tree. It doesn't have one!! It just says TIMER on it. It has a a clip w/a magnet on the back, and on the front it has only 3 buttons: Min, Sec, and Start/stop. Under the Min and Sec buttons it says RESET, and under the Start/Stop button it says MEMORY. This one has a black oval around the timer display and the word, TIMER. My other one has a red oval, but it is otherwise exactly the same. HTH!
MicheleinMN
I love my Good Cook timers. They have lasted and lasted. Thanks for reminding me that I should look for a couple more while I'm out today. (The other couple of brands I bought no one around here likes.) Also, the Good Cook timers only use one AAA battery each. HTH Edited October 27, 2009 by MicheleinMN
sixglides
Love my Pampered Chef timer, it also has a 'count up' function, in case we want to see how long it takes to do something. ($16 range)

TN Mama
I own one, but we never use it. Instead, I use this one: http://www.timeme.com/timer-stopwatch.htm

LadyAberlin
I also have a regular timer that is from Fly Lady and I've had it for a yr or two and it gets dropped and lost and refound and I've never had any problems with it.
Beach Mom
We use this one, it was cheap but has proven "boy proof". It counts up and down and has endured much rough handling. http://store.schoolspecialtyonline.net/OA_HTML/ibeCCtpItmDspRte.jsp?item=464544&minisite=10046
extendedforecast
I use the stopwatch or timer on my iphone, depending on whether we want to count up or down.
Mom0012
I bought a small digital kitchen timer from target that seems to be pretty sturdy for about $5 or $6. Lisa
melissel
I own one, but we never use it. Instead, I use this one: http://www.timeme.com/timer-stopwatch.htm This is AWESOME. Thank you!
GESTEP
If you are near the kitchen and your microwave has a timer it SHOULD be pretty hard for them to drop it. We have a cheap one ($1)from Kitchen Collections but we don't drop ours. Even at $1 you could buy several for the price of others.
Jane
Thanks, ladies. It looks like there is no consensus. I love a lot of your creative ideas, but do not home school by a computer or by our kitchen, and I have an analog watch. It looks like my best bet is a dollar store--at least if it breaks it cost less, right? :001_huh:
ElizabethB
Sand timers are hard to break, you can buy them in 1, 3, 5, minute intervals or a set of several different ones.
