What is your favorite writing for HS? We have some experience. Have done some IEW, Hake writing, a few years of Calvert, WTTW and H2Teach. I am looking for something the will give instructions but encourage thinking and argument formation. Rubric needed for grading. Last semester kids were writing 5 paragraph essays each week. We have used H2T. Disappointment. Not live classes. You must sit and read the screen and type for an hour. BORING! The assignments were tiny IMHO and the feedback even less. Since moving on, turns out one of my kids is a talented writer, this NEVER came up. Leads me to wonder about the prompts and if they really help kids learn or have a system they push you through. We hired a tutor. The 8th and 9th graders did a round of Hake grammar and writing (with IEW rubric) in one semester, not a year, and are now working through WTTW(with IEW rubric). My boys resisted writing at this age big time. Big time. Now my 9th grader is called talented by his charter school teachers. I have been told kids who can write like THIS are given scholarships. Read to him. Have him listen to audio books. Have him read. Maybe try WWE level 2 or IEW but either way give as much help as needed. Do oral narration with him. Odd ball here. We do a science text book with a workbook. Gasp. I like covering a little of the topic and adding more each year. My like like it as well and ask to do science each day.
