The Thunderbirds fly over my house at least once a year (we live btwn USAFA and the field where they land) ... when I was a kid the Blue Angels frequently flew over our house so low that the windows would shake. I loved laying in the yard and watching them. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

Is a Sam's or Costco membership worth it?
theelfqueen replied to SamanthaCarter's topic in The Chat Board
I always feel like I get good deals and we definitely save on gas... and we use their rewards credit card (formerly AmEx, now a VISA) which gives really good % on gas especially. We only use it for Costco and we earn back considerably more than our annual membership fee. -
I know there have been other threads on this subject but I attempted to search and the ~~bleepity bleep~~ search of WTM failed me again.... So, anyway... We just signed up for Enrichment classes for Autumn and Muppet Boy got his number one choice - a two hour a week cooking class. Class Description: "Come learn how to put a whole meal on the table in 30 minutes using everyday ingredients and minimal mess. All new ideas and recipes will come from various books by Jamie Oliver and "Real Life Recipes" by Rocca Dispirto. This class is not designed for vegetarians. Please remember to communicate with the teacher the student's dietary needs and restrictions, if any. A desire to cook and an ability to listen, follow directions, and pay attention are a must." So to up this to a 1/2 credit elective... We're at ~24 hours of class, plus 18 hours of TGC: Food: A Cultural Culinary History... I was thinking about adding the Alton Brown "I'm Just Here for the Food" books and some additional home cooking. Other suggestions?

I bought an Alice's Adventures in Wonderland study guide and a Beowulf unit plan ... because we start school next week and those are the books my kids are starting with and I had ZERO plans for lit beyond a vocabulary list and having chosen the literature list for Fall semester. This gives me a solid starting place. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

PE for a 5th grader - please help

How about something like a bowling league? Some of the lanes near us offer homeschool leagues. Or swimming lessons? Would that appeal to her more? -
What do you like for biology?
theelfqueen replied to Janeway's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
We really liked Miller Levine too. We used the ebook mostly, and the hardcover sometimes. We used a variety of the built in tools - key questions, review materials, quick labs, etc. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk -
I use Five Js Grade book Plus for tracking attendance, booklist, course descriptions and grade book. It's a free download for Excel. I do my planning in excel then transfer to a paper planner. Each day I copy an assignment checklist for the kid (mine are older) into a to do notebook that is dated. After each assignment is complete the kids highlight it. It will appear on their list again the next day as needed. I have some blank days in my long term planning for each subject to give some leeway if we fall behind. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

Those symptoms sound like they could be migraines ... but not definitely. I'd definitely be seeking doctor's aid. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

Does she have other symptoms? Migraines in small children sometimes you'll see auras and nausea but they might not present in a way the child can describe. Does she say light hurts her eyes or that sounds hurt or make her dizzy? Do you find her trying to cool her head (kids will press their heads against the tile floor or the base of the toilet sometimes)? Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

pain in ears from being in higher altitude...what to do?
theelfqueen replied to ProudGrandma's topic in The Chat Board
And I definitely think the pressure changes from going to a higher altitude could be at play. I live at over 6000 ft and I see all kinds of altitude reactions from visitors! I even got altitude sickness myself once after returning from a long vacation at sea level. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk -

theelfqueen replied to ProudGrandma's topic in The Chat Board
Have you tried Valsalva? (Forcing the ears to pop by holding your nose and closing your mouth then forcefully exhaling through the nose) if you have with no relief or increased pain I'd head for the doctor ... perhaps some swimmers ear or something like that? Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk -
Wearable Fitness trackers - please chime in!
theelfqueen replied to frugalmamatx's topic in The Chat Board
I've had really great support from Fitbit but I've needed it -- I had two charges die and one Alta. If your fitbit is having issues definitely contact support! :( But I love their app... my friends are on it so I get some great motivation from sharing with them. So I have an Alta on right now. -
So we're Mon-Fri ... but either Tuesday or Wednesday we have a half day of enrichment classes... we do math plus something... and listen to something on audio on our way. Then on Thursdays we have a lighter day because we hike every Thursday afternoon (if the weather is terrible we might go bowling or skating or just stay home) so we either end early or start late.
