  1. Monday afternoon and the saga is not over yet!!! The kid squatting in the room is still there. He has less than an hour to vacate before campus police pack up his room. While I feel bad for this kid my son who is paying for his room I feel worse. I am sitting in dorm lobby waiting for the thrilling conclusion.
  2. My son has had difficulty finding a summer job. Plus he is taking summer classes on campus from June-August. He is interviewing for a job at school bookstore which would be temporary but at least it’s a start. It used to be so much simpler.
  3. Update #99 Title: I can’t make this up I arrive to help him move. We get key to new room. We pack up old room. We go to new room. There is a kid living in the room. We call hall director. He says room has been empty for months, he will be right over. Turns our kid who is no longer enrolled has been living there. He lives out of state so they are giving him till Monday at noon to vacate. in the meantime my son was encouraged to call campus security and report his roommates threatening behavior which he did. I can only describe the roommates mess as hoarders meets mentally ill college student. Everyone who entered the room was shocked. So we packed up his stuff in car to take home for the weekend and bring back on Monday. Wish us luck!! I don’t think it can get stranger.
  4. Happy update!!! After class he moves into a single room in the same dorm!! He is super relieved and happy.
  5. Well since I last posted my son told me more, told hall director he felt unsafe to sleep in room so I headed out to pick him up ( school is an hour away) Tomorrow I’ll take him back for class then help him move to new room in the afternoon. I can’t wait till this is a distant memory.
  6. Thanks for the suggestion. My son says he knows how to use. 27 days left of school so I am hoping this will be resolved tonight. I’m beginning to wonder why this person moved from their previous room. On the plus side I have seen a side of my son I never knew about. Mature, confident, outspoken and just taking charge. Making me proud! ETA: He just asked RA about a room change.
  7. RA is meeting with roommate tonight and he has number for campus police in his phone.
  8. His first roommate moved after about 6 weeks. Then no roommate for over a month. Next roommate moved in for short time before dropping out of school. Then no roommate again. So he has been pretty lucky until now. Because of medical condition he could have gotten a single room but he wanted the college experience of having a roommate. His sister and I warned him but he wouldn’t listen. On the bright side he learned how to advocate for himself which he is quite proud of. Roommate left room around 5am (after videotape) came back and was silent. Hopefully the nonsense will stop.
  9. My son (freshman) has only had this roommate for about 3 months but he is a bad egg (to put it nicely) With 30 days left of school my son reached his breaking point and met with his RA. She gave good advice, he discussed with roommate. Roommate has now been slamming window shut and banging his desk chair against desk for hours (starting at 3am). I told my son to put phone to video, roommate saw and left the room. Ugh. RA says she will elevate to meeting with hall director. I can’t even make sense of roommates behavior. Ugh.
  10. I also think some impressions of schools are tainted by a good/bad tour guide. We left one tour guide to join up with another group. Sone schools we visited numerous times and 1-2 we cut the tour short knowing we had no interest. It is an exhausting process.
  11. My daughter is graduating in May with her BSN in nursing and a minor in global public health. She was in a direct admit program (freshman year) She plans on working for a year before pursuing her masters/doctorate.
  12. I’ve only slept on beds with boxspring & mattress. Are platform beds with just mattress the same comfort level? Does a new mattress with a higher profile (pillow top) still work with them?
  13. Thanks for all the kind thoughts. Day 3 and the nausea is finally subsiding and peace and quiet is returning to my stomach. Progress!
  14. I’ve been gluten & dairy free for exactly 2 days and can’t stop moaning and complaining. i have IBS which is on the rampage and being dairy free is not working. My daughter has been gluten free for 3 years so I know how to deal with it but I feel like throwing a temper tantrum 😋 Tell me it’s going to get easier.
  15. My daughter is graduating with her BSN in nursing. She will be living a plane ride away from us. She doesn't need work clothes (or stethoscope or anything for job). I don't want to do jewelry or luggage or anything like that. I was thinking of a meal subscription service. She's gluten free and not really into cooking plus I'm not sure if its more appropriate for a birthday gift. Any ideas?
  16. I visited 8 years ago. We did not get any extra vaccines. We all got a wicked case of food poisoning that we still talk about it was so bad.
  17. Humira was the first biologic we tried.
  18. It helped a little, still had too many issues so then increased dosage then finally got doctor to switch. The issue is once you go off it, you stand a much higher risk of rejecting the drug if you attempt it again at a later time. There are some really active Facebook groups for IBD kids/young adults and groups for Remicade and other meds.
  19. My son was on humira for 2 years for Crohns. It did not work well for him and he has happily been on Remicade for over 2 years. He had no side effects.
  20. Congratulations!!! My son is only a freshman and I'm already freaking out about job prospects.
  21. My daughter is in her final semester and will graduate with her BSN in May. She was in a 4 year program. She did not apply to any 2 year programs. The competition for any nursing program is crazy. Her school got over a thousand applications for around 150 spots. It is a risk going to a 2 year program as there is no guarantee of admittance. One school told us they took mainly students from outside schools (very odd to me). I know of someone who graduated college and then it took several years to finally get admitted to a nursing program. My daughter had another friend who wanted to transfer into nursing and retook science courses because she did not get A's the first time around. The competition is fierce. Hospitals are requiring anyone with an RN to get a BSN or lose their jobs. I believe it is becoming mandatory that all nurses have a BSN. I know of two hospitals that won't hire any new RN's. I don't know how common it is but I know of one school that begins clinical rotations in freshman year. My daughter did not begin clinical rotations until junior year. Also there is a very good chance your daughters first job will be at a hospital in the vicinity of her school. My daughter is going to apply to local hospitals but most likely she will be 2000 miles away at a hospital she completed a clinical rotation at.
  22. My favorite is Chao, comes in 3 flavors I've been making tortillas with So Delicious shreds and it melts beautifully.
  23. I see my son every 6 weeks but this is the longest time he has been home. He told me today he misses being at school, being independent, his friends, everything. This is the child we used to joke would be living in my basement as an adult and never leave home!
  24. I buy my son crazy socks on Etsy. He loves them.
