  1. Oh my goodness yes. I totally can relate. I've had to say at times 'what happens if the rock starts to crack?'
  2. To me, mojo is energy or spark or charm. I see it as positive.
  3. Something from here perhaps: https://www.snorgtees.com/collections/math And maybe something like Harry Potter fan art? You can get things like wall art on Redbubble or Etsy. There's something about fan art that I find really powerful. I guess it's the fact that someone else loves the niche interest so much to go to that effort.
  4. I saw an article recently about the musician, Tommy Lee. He was in Australia and apparently was shocked at the cost of cigarettes here. He apparently paid $63AU per pack, compared to $12 in the US. I don't smoke and don't know anyone who does, so I have no idea how accurate this is. But I do remember something about cigarettes being about $40 per pack a few years back, due to new taxing on them.
  5. I can completely relate. It was a horrible combination of OCD and rage. For us, the rage was self-directed. It was self-hate and immense frustration, and it was explosive. It was related to perfectionism and also about feeling out of control and at the mercy of OCD. Things that helped were acknowledging the feelings and having ways to safely express and release the rage. I had piles of balled up socks and a safe area to throw them at each other. I had pillows she could punch. I also had balloons to whack at in the hallway. The rage needed to be used up physically, and then it would usually result in a big cry. Mistakes I made: I gave her things she could tear up, but that was a fail, because once she calmed down, she could see destruction, which added to her feelings of 'what's wrong with me??' The good news - it passed. It wasn't forever. It felt like forever at the time. I really hope you find the solutions that work for you and your daughter 🌻
  6. I also work in the tertiary education sector. I always appreciate a follow-up email from a student. It lets me know that my answer was received. And like regentrude, it is a bonus to know that you actually helped the student with their enquiry or concern. I would never be irritated by an email of this nature. I think that different industries may have different cultures in this regard.
  7. 😄 Go QLD Govt! What a great sign. And cassowaries are HUGE and very intimidating looking. I love our wildlife, but I'd be giving cassowaries a very very wide berth if I saw one in the wild. They are about emu sized, but stockier.
  8. In this situation where gift-gifting is somewhat expected, I would make a donation to a charity (no need to disclose the amount donated) and pin a card up on the staff bulletin board saying something like 'Merry Christmas everyone. In lieu of gifts, I have made a donation to x. Happy holidays to you all!'
  9. Do you put your food directly into the basket? Or do you line the basket with something?
  10. Wow, that's very unpizzaish. I've never seen such a thing.
  11. Why did you do away with liners? I had a shop assistant singing the praises of silicone inserts, saying that it eliminates the need to clean the basket or pan. I haven't even turned this thing on yet, so I'm a complete newbie.
  12. I'm not Size 12 or into Dr Who, but @MercyA you are a very cool human.
  13. We just got an air fryer for the first time. Please share your tips and tricks. Do you use liners? If so, what sort? And where exactly do they go? Do you use a heat mat under the machine to protect your bench top? Is your air fryer non-stick? If so, how do you protect the lining? I've been gradually eliminating teflon products from our house, but now we have this teflon-coated beast (not my decision), so I need to make peace with it.
  14. A pianola? That's quite a different beast to a piano, as far as I understand.
  15. Was this quote maybe for a service and not just tuning? We have a baby grand. It costs us about $250 for tuning. But we've had quotes for $15-20k for certain repairs.
  16. My experience is so similar. My parents are huge John Denver fans. So much so in fact that I was going to be called Denver if I was a boy. True story. I think I was under 10 when I went to a John Denver concert here in Brisbane. I don't seek out John Denver songs often at all, but when I do it's definitely melancholy as the primary emotion. Annie's Song. My Calypso. There's one about an eagle. 'I am an eagle, I fly in high country' or something like that. I totally attribute my fangirl tendencies to my Mum and my upbringing 😉
  17. Yes, we're in the western suburbs of Brisbane. Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is something we're thinking about it. It's in our neck of the woods, and is a tourist attraction. Australia Post is a good idea. We wouldn't have thought of that - thank you!
  18. My 17 year old is going to look for work for the Christmas/New Year period. She's 6 months off from finishing her two uni degrees, but she currently has no qualifications or work experience. Her main marketable skills are languages. She speaks English (native), Korean (fluent) and Japanese (conversational), so using these could be helpful. Something in the tourism field perhaps? She may well end up at Woolies or KMart, and that's fine, but utilising her skills would be nice. Any ideas?
  19. My goodness. That is one of the coolest things I've ever seen. You're amazing! Your attention to detail is incredible. The merch stand!! So fabulous. You could consider adding the following: - little banners for the audience members. They could be the band name or maybe messages to a band member. - wrist bands on the audience members - security - big screens - a big queue at the toilets 😄 Do you have any more photos? I'd love to see it closer up. There's so much detail to see!
  20. I remember reading once that people find three things particularly unfascinating, no matter how fascinating it is to the storyteller: 1. Other people's dreams 2. Other people's travels 3. Other people's grandchildren But of course you need to read the room.
  21. I've used henna for decades. It doesn't stain my shower. I use BonVit. How did your hair go with a chemical dye over the henna? I've been under the impression that you can't use chemical dyes or bleach over henna because the reaction will burn the hair. Mind you, I've never tried. I'm happy with my henna.
  22. Can you frame it as being a positive and logical next step for the teen? So, shift the discussion from it being about you to it being about what's the next best step for the teen. Good luck. It sounds like you've done a lot of good for this family.
