  1. I don't watch K-dramas, but as you all probably know, I'm a big K-pop fan. Have any of you watched IU's new music video? It's called Love Wins All. V from BTS is acting in it. It is incredible. I knew he'd acted in K-dramas in the past, but I had no idea he was such a good actor. I have to admit that I don't really remember the song itself, because the music video was so captivating. It was like a mini movie.
  2. Literacy is vital, clearly, but am I understanding correctly that this school has thrown science out the window for every student, regardless of their literacy skills? If so, what does this mean for the science education of these students for the rest of their schooling?
  3. I wonder if it's something to do with different centre of gravity for different body types. People with a lower centre of gravity may have more difficulty with regular push ups. Just a thought.
  4. I'm enjoying the different seasons of parenting and now grandparenting.
  5. Yes, this. Plus, it has always seemed that you and your boys are a strong and loving team. Together you will get through, even if it is hard. Thinking of you, and wishing you all the best. I hope that this transition goes as smoothly as it can.
  6. Wow! This will actually change my choice of four bean mix from now on.
  7. You know what's interesting? My youngest daughter says she never wants to travel to the USA. Mass shootings are way scarier than snakes and spiders.
  8. Right now we do have a lot of spiders, it's true. I'm catching and releasing huntsmen every couple of days. They might look scary, but they won't harm you. We have more snakes and spiders during the hot wet summers, so it should definitely be better by late Feb when your daughter arrives.
  9. I always imagine it as 'Mum! Mum! Mum!' I feel for maggie mums too. Those juveniles are very vocal and demanding. @Terabith Our local council posts signs in parks and on roadsides, warning us of nesting maggies. That's the only time they swoop - if they think their babies are at risk. And they don't always swoop. We always have magpie families in our yard and none of them swoop. We must clearly be understood to be no threat. And my parents hand feed magpie families at their house.
  10. I'm Australian, and I've never heard of death by magpie. I love maggies. Their song is so beautiful. Yes, they do protect their young, and so they should. @saraha As you know, I'm where your daughter is headed. I've never seen a tiger snake. We have plenty of snakes here in Brisbane (you may have seen my photo from my parents' house the other day), but it's pretty rare to cross paths with a venomous one. I know zero people who have been bitten by a venomous snake.
  11. The baby was taken to hospital at the time, and then went straight into foster care.
  12. Just adding to say that it took the police a day or so to work out whose baby it was. We truly had no idea.
  13. A teenage neighbour had hidden her pregnancy (we had NO idea). She gave birth in her bedroom without anyone knowing, and then put the newborn on the grass under our bedroom window. In court she said that we were good parents and we'd know what to do. I wish she'd just knocked on our door and asked for help, poor thing.
  14. A newborn baby was left in our yard in the middle of the night.
  15. When I had my children, I absolutely did not want anyone in my home. Short visits, sure, but nothing more. No one did anything like make meals or do laundry, and that suited me perfectly. I feel a bit antsy just pondering it. I'm a brand new grandmother right now. My first grandbaby was born in December. I was VERY clear to my daughter that I would be as hands-on or hands-off as she wanted, and that she REALLY needed to always be honest with me. Well, I ended up at the birth, staying in hospital with her throughout some nights, and today she's asked me to come with her to a Dr appointment. So, I think it's important to note that what different people want/need can be vastly different, and relationships between different people/generations can be vastly different. For me and my daughter, I'm just glad we have strong enough communication that I feel confident that I'm helping to the extent she actually wants. Also, her husband has 6 weeks leave, and is really fabulous, so that's a big factor too.
  16. I'm so glad we got to see the gingerbread men before they are frosted. Goodness it's making me laugh. I *adore* that age group. I work with adults now, in teacher training, but prior to that I worked in Montessori 0-3 and 3-6. 3-4yr old are my favourite age.
  17. What a fun age to think back to! At 11, I was at the tail end of my intense go-kart racing years, and just starting my intense synchronised swimming years. I also played netball and softball on my school teams, and spent a lot of spare time up trees.
  18. Surely You're Joking, Mr Feynman. It's certainly not new, but thought it's worth mentioning.
  19. I was told that the limited vaccines available here were only being given to high-risk cats eg kittens, any cats going into boarding, and any coming from shelters. I think this thread needs a kitten photo!
  20. Interesting. So maybe it's just us. The vet said 'worldwide', so I was curious.
  21. Good question. I couldn't get any vaccines done for my cats. But we don't have rabies here in Australia, so that's a non-issue for us, luckily.
  22. I just had my cat at the vet, and I was told that there's a worldwide cat vaccine shortage. We might need to wait months. Just curious if this truly is worldwide and is affecting others. https://www.ava.com.au/news/feline-vaccine-shortage/
  23. They really are beautiful, and the camouflage is incredible. And I love seeing their strength as they move. Amazing.
