  1. I had planned on working a bit today, just math and reading, but the day seems to be slipping by and I'm losing my motivation. I think we all need a break. Laura
  2. I think you did the right thing and so did the other mom. I think I would have been resentful if she hadn't offered.
  3. Thanks for asking. I've always meant to take the time to figure it out...but... Laura
  4. My k'er is part way through gamma. I'm supplementing w/Singapore and Challenge Math-Primary. I will continue to drill math facts w/her, but we watch the MUS lesson and she does 1 worksheet. If she gets it we move on. I'm planning on starting RS math games as well this week. Laura
  5. Hi, We're starting Henle (my ds6th grader and I), and I need all the help I can get. He seems to be ok (just completed LCII), but I might be needing the help. I was curious as to whether anyone used this cd and found it helpful. We are using the Memoria Press syllabus and that does help, but if you know of any other resources geared toward Henle, I would be grateful. Thanks, Laura
  6. We just watched The Kid, with Charlie Chaplin because my kids had a hard time believing that there was a time when movies had no sound. They really enjoyed it and it was good for them to see how well someone can convey a message w/o talking. Plus, the hard luck story was meaningful as well. The story is based on a woman having a child either out of wedlock or w/o her husband. It went over my kids' heads, though, but I wish I had known before we started watching it. I figured it was so old there could be little objectionable. The Secret of Roan Inish is one of my all time favorites. Laura
  7. My daughter loved the Frog and Toad and they were easy and gave her a sense of accomplishment. We went on to an Loebel study unit and read most of his books--there's a scholastic book that I got from the library that said how to turn it into a unit study--kind of basic, but I got a few good ideas. Amelia Bedelia was another hit. I couldn't get her into Burgess though. The Stepping Stone books look good. There was also a series about a princess and a pony that someone mentioned here that she really liked as well. Laura
  8. We only do the morning program and I don't think you'll have any problems w/either the Latin or grammar. The Latin this cycle for us is just memorizing noun endings, which is easy for my 2 kids who are already studying it, but lots of kids in their classes (4th and 6th) don't have any Latin background and they do just fine. The grammar this cycle is very helpful. They're memorizing prepositions, which is very helpful w/our diagramming. They assume no knowledge on the part of the student. I can't speak to the writing program in the afternoon. Laura
  9. My dd6 still does this b/c I didn't correct her when she was younger. Now I just sit next to her and remind her. Sometimes jokingly, sometimes more seriously. It's becoming more ingrained, but she still makes mistakes. Laura
  10. There's Challenge Math, by John Zaccarro I believe. (I can't remember if his name has two 'c's or two 'r's. Laura
  11. Thanks for the reminder. I just booked it. Now, I hope I can make it. I can't believe the Millennium Hotel is sold out for the discount rate. Laura
  12. Same issue w/my ds. He has to fix the missed problems on his own time though and that helps a bit. Not enough though. Laura
  13. I am so glad to hear that you had trouble getting on. I could never get on and ended up wasting all of my $$$. I felt like an idiot.
  14. Have you seen Connecting w/History? Sorry, I'm terrible w/links. It has 2 volumes covering until the Middle Ages I believe. Laura
  15. I like the lay out of FFL and the video aspect. We're starting next week after LCI. My kids have more Latin than I do, and I"m hoping FFL helps me as much as them (DS is actually moving on to Henle). I also bought Getting Started w/Latin, which looks good for me, but way below them. Laura
  16. My dd6 is the same. She's about half-way through Beta and will be doing Gamma soon (I had bought Alpha, but didn't get a chance to use it). She just does one page/lesson if she knows it and we move. She also does Saxon. I have Singapore, but I have a hard time doing it. We're also doing Challenge Math (Primary Grades). We're also doing some of the Right Start games and she does this pizza fraction game w/her siblings. Laura
  17. Debbie, your site is wonderful. But I need help w/DVT. It's used in the context of Lial's BCM (Basic College Math). I'm assuming it's something like digital video teacher???? Thanks, Laura
  18. I'm an OH hs'er, and I love Tim! I think a lot of us like to claim him one way or another.
  19. Dragons, thanks for the download test. That's very helpful. Laura
  20. My 3 have been all over the place, DS started in 4th b/c that's when we started hs'ing, DD started in 2d, but moved slowly thru PL, and DD6 started Song School in kindy and we'll to Minimus this summer and possibly PL. But her reading, spelling, and grammar are fairly advanced. Laura
  21. Elizabeth, just wanted to tell you thanks for taking the time to explain all of this. I have a much greater understanding than I did before. However, I'm still in a fog. I'm hoping I can see someone's copy. I hate making $200 mistakes. Laura
  22. Well, I'm glad to hear that it's not me, but the website. I have been skeptical in part b/c of their poor website. Besides the whole layout, I look at the sample pages and think ????? Laura
  23. I feel for you hockey moms. I can't think of many sports that cost more. Maybe horses? Skiing? And if you're on a travel team.... :aira
  24. Ok, so if we're studying Latin and Greek, does this mean MCT is overkill? Laura
  25. Korin, I'll bring the Starbucks-decaf or regular? I am so looking forward to the convention--it will be my first. I had wanted to go last year, but had had knee surgery the week before. I thought about going with a wheel chair--for about 5 mins. I think looking at everything will help one way or another. (Does MCT do conventions--or do they sell enough on this board?) I'm not blown away by their website either. But that hasn't stopped me before. I pretty much have everything I want, but I'm surprised at how basic the grammar we use has been. I'm hoping it picks up soon. I think if it helps me it would be worth it too. Laura
