  1. Coffe. I get depressed if we're out. And milk for the coffee, as I find it undrinkable without.
  2. I'm in. I already have two boxes of stuff, a lamp and a playpen in the garage, so, not counting what's in the boxes, I'll say I have 4/100.
  3. 1. I'd buy Rosetta Stone French. 2. Put dd in an art class. 3. Convert the guestroom to a school room. 4. Remodel the kitchen. 5. Take the kids to Europe.
  4. Yes, you're kids are old enough to hang out while you run to the store.....Mine are 6 and 13, and I make short trips, and while they like to brutalize each other when I'm home, they behave for some reason on their own. Best of luck.
  5. Oh my, can I relate. Ds, 13, is pure silliness, sometimes venom. Just this week I told him he can play/ride his bike when his work is done. He hasn't played yet. Hoping he learns to manage his time better. Dd, 9, is hell on wheels this year too. I decided to take a break from Homeschool Tracker, and just write the must-do assignments on the board, breaking them up with pingpong, scooter time, etc. With her, I think I was overdoing it...too much work for too long (started 7/27) with too little scheduled fun. Best to you!
  6. I have a friend who's adult (40) brother is named Rand. He was called Randy growing up, but laid down the law in adulthood about returning to just Rand. It does seem a bit affected to me to call him Rand, especially since I had always known him (college) as Randy. But do what you want. My friend chose Rand for her son's middle name. I have an unusual name and really dislike it. I tried to start going by my middle name, Elizabeth, in college, but gave up. Rand is a bit more dignified, though. I do not enjoy going into maturity as "Misty."
  7. Please tell me what you eat that everyone stays so healthy! We do get flu shots, and plan to get the H1N1 because: 1. My son, after an illness this year, has the early signs of MS. 2. My daughter is hit very hard by respiratory illness, and we suspect has JRA. I didn't know about the mercury. I'll have to read about that.
  8. There's a website??? That helps solve problems? Does anyone have this link?:bigear:
  9. Thank you! This is EXACTLY what it's like. Yes, he must be growing. Always an early riser (5:30/6:00) he is now sleeping past 8 a.m. He's 13, 5'9", "well-nourished" ;). We aren't doing sports...not a family focus, and the current budget does not allow. Should I try and get him into something? And Leanne...re-doing substandard work....he HATES this, HATES me when i make him do it and I start to feel like an ogre. But he needs to submit his best effort, right? He earned an "F" on a Saxon 8/7 math test this week. I lectured him, expressed dismay, and stuck him in the kitchen and made him re-do it: "B". I asked him, "We're you studying your heart out the last 12 hours?" (Surely not.)
  10. I wish I knew fresh air and sunshine don't waste time, but make time more effective. I wish I knew that if I'm screaming and the child is crying, it's time to do something differently. I wish I knew that if I don't schedule the subject, the subject won't get done, no matter how wonderful the materials. I am grateful to know that God has blessed my efforts with a steady increase in patience. (I was the most impatient/edgy, unlikely homeschool candidate.) People told me He would. Thank you, Father!
  11. Thank you! I just printed out the form. Huh, after 8 months in and out of hospitals and doctors' offices, you'd think someone would have mentioned that link.
  12. My son went blind in February, after receiving the Menactra vaccine. He immediately fell ill, and was blind the following week. No doctor who saw him will consider the vaccine the cause, hence his reaction was not reported. Not a single doctor will report it. I'm generally very pro-vaccine, but this gave me pause. Maybe all you anti-vaccine homeschool crazies are right! :D (After 8 months of treatment and two hospitalizations, my son is fine, with only minimal vision loss.) My brother, a retired neurosurgeon, had no trouble seeing the link.
  13. Dd, 4th grade, is just a terrible speller. We are halfway through AAS I. She loves the tiles, the dvd, writing words in grits/sand/rice. AAS has shown me she's a kinesthetic learner. She ooohs and aaaahs when I put out a pie plate of tactile "stuff." She reads great. She doesn't seem to make the connection between the AAS lessons and when she is doing other writing. Also, the AAS lessons are so teacher-intensive, that they often get shoved aside. (Like today.) Is there something she should be tested for? She is having a rough year...lots of mood swings, math anxiety, says she wants to go back to school.
  14. Baked potatoes. Broccoli and cheese or canned chili on top. I just made a "two days til payday" casserole: orzo pasta cooked, added to a large bag of frozen, thawed and drained spinach, a few beaten eggs, parmesan. Mix. I added some fried onions from the back of the cupboard. Bake.
  15. I had a beauty mark on my face that turned into a giant witch mole in my thirties. There was A LOT of tugging and pulling as they stitched up the gap, but nothing too terrible.
  16. I'm sorry. Are you worried about school? When things break down around here, we have "reading days." The kids lay around with books all day- very peaceful. You could also have "game days." And sign up for netflix, and have science and history movies sent every week. My children like some of them so much, they watch them over and over. I'll pm you my netflix password if you want to look at my queue for movies. I'll be praying for you.
  17. Also, if you believe that life begins at conception, keep in mind that the Pill and similar hormonal BC, are abortifacients.
  18. Natural Family Planning, when practiced accurately, does not rely on regular periods but rather on your temperature and other physical signs. If you call a Catholic parish near you, they should be able to tell you where to take classes. You are not required to be Catholic to take them.
