  1. This is what DS does we use Math Mammoth for our main math program and it has seemed to help. We do LOF oral, today he added 2 and 3 digit numbers in his head :glare: Also, after we finish our MM. for 1/2 hr. we do a daily math basket ~ 1- games, 2-hands-on,3-Logic, 4-fractions, 5-money,lego,vocabulary. So should I just take a :chillpill: pill and see what the next 6 months bring
  2. have trouble with basic addition/subtraction math facts, but do well with more difficult math, multiplication, division, geometry, algebra type problems, fractions etc. ? I just don't get it and am at a loss. If so what did you do to solve this problem? Thank you
  3. Talk about fast - Yesterday, I ordered LOF from z-twist and not only was it free shipping, but they shipped yesterday too!!
  4. Thank you everyone - I will be ordering some LOF books tomorrow!
  5. I know I have seen a post before, but I am unable to locate it - Thank you
  6. This is awesome - I can not wait to search all of your recommendations to see what will fit our needs. Thank you ;)
  7. Hi, From what are struggles were I do not believe it to be normal. I copied this from I post that I wrote on last night - sorry - it is rather long. Okay here is what happened with ds at 5 - I printed from Donna Young's site the prewriting skills, he did mazes and simple free drawings. He seemed to do a great job so after the prewriting I printed regular writing sheets well he had trouble doing them - okay to be honest I thought it was too early since he was a boy and he liked history, science experiments, hands on math and reading so I backed off the writing. We did have his eyes checked and found out he was right eye dominate, but everything else was fine no perception problems - passed all the test from the visual specialist. So we waited until he was 6.5 and we bought Peterson Directed Handwriting we did K, 1, 2, but he just seemed to hate writing and it seemed so labored and took so long to write anything. I of course thought it was because I backed off and he did not get enough extra writing practice, but to be honest he was progressing so well in his other subjects I figured it was a boy thing and he would be fine. So once again I backed off. Around 8 we decided to have him write more through dictation a sentence a day(this took a while , but I just figured with more practice he will get faster) and I switched him to A Reason for Writing he did the print and the transition for cursive, but he was still having problems. Now we felt ds was at the point where he needed to write more with his work. So we tried dictation with 3 sentences and it was not good for him. So I read many post on the board and had his eye site retested by another vision specialist and he was fine. Finally, last Aug. before he turned 9 we decided 3 months is all we will try and if he was still having so much trouble writing we would talk to the Dr. and go from there. That being said we started IEW he could and did come up with wonderful stories, but this is the big deal it took him 2.5 hours to write 10 sentences - not playing around, not day dreaming just plain hard work and struggling. Needless to say we did not wait 3 months I made an appointment and took him to the DR. which in turn sent us to the OT. At OT they checked his hand dominance, checked his strength in both of his hands and pincher grip, arms, shoulders with a machine measuring thing, checked his response time when he uses his hands for small pincher grip work. They tested his visual perception, spatial awareness, visual motor integration and other things that sorry I can not remember. Findings his left side hand fingers, arm and shoulder muscles are underdeveloped - his right side somewhat is, but is much stronger than his left. They rechecked to make sure he is left dominance for writing because he cuts, cuts with a knife, can write, plays ball, hockey and everything right handed, but they are 100% sure he is a lefty for writing. They also checked and found a problem with him crossing over his body mid-line so this to is being addressed. They also wanted to know how long did he crawl - well ds only crawled far enough to get to something he could pull himself up on and walk around this was at 7.5 months he walked by himself at 8 months. They told us this is not good for a child everychild needs to crawl to develop properly. They had me switch him to Hand Writing Without Tears - which seems to be working out. We do the print 1 full boat from doorway letters, chalk board, etc. and cursive 3. This is a awesome program and I recommend it for all left handed children. And he has OT 1 hour a week and we have exercises to do daily. The point I would like to make to everyone is please do not do as we did and wait until your child is 9 before you get help. Honestly we were floored that he has underdeveloped muscles - he is not a small child not over weight just large built and tall for his age. We just thought because he is big it was hard for him to hang on the bar (he could not grip it good enough - we never caught it) and for him to do a good push up - wow I could go on about all the things we missed that we never gave it a thought because he is all boy. On the positive side OT has helped a great deal and we can see a great deal of improvement, he can do dictation for 2 sentences in 3 minutes. He does use a triangle grip on his pencil and also has one they made for him it blocks the movement of his thumb so that when he starts to slip his thumb forward and not use his fingers to move his pencil it corrects. Sorry such a long post. Feel free to pm me if you have any other questions.

  9. Map Trek - we love it , it is easy to use and wonderful maps :)
  10. :iagree: If your child does not get faster - I would strongly suggest testing with an OT. Our ds did not improve because of dominate hand, cross over and muscle issues. After 3+ months of OT and switching to HWT he is picking up speed and getting stronger. We had never expected a problem - he did all the normal things boys do - so I am telling you this because we wrote it off as a boy thing, a left hand thing and we were so wrong :001_huh:
  11. In our experience proper pencil grip was the key for our lefties and HWT will help your child to develop this.
  12. Normal, but you could have her write her letters with her eyes closed, we used a large white board with ds.
  13. Thank you - we watched this yesterday and ds did like it!
  14. Yes, we only have streaming. I will check out your other suggestions. Thank you for sharing,
  15. Does anyone have a list of shows they would like to share that relates to physics? Thank you
  16. Okay in our state you pay taxes to the public school so they have to help. But we did not to use them. Also, we had his hearing checked before the speech evaluation to make sure his speech was not due to him not being able to hear. We waited until DS 9.5 because that is when we where told he should be able to articulate R's. (this happened with dd too) They tested him and discovered he had problems with th,s,f,and v too. That being said he goes for 1 hour each week and then we do the homework from them daily. He has been in ST since March 28th and 2 weeks ago he passed out of everything, but R's and Th. So around 2 months. Now if we had a do over this is what we would do: Have him tested at and earlier age.(which you have) Do ST they way we are now 1 hour weekly with daily homework. Also, I would have started him on All About Spelling at an early age. This program is a big help and I highly recommend you using it with your child. The relation between speaking and spelling is huge. This program has helped ds to self correct by sound. Example he used to say "bath" - "baff "and so he spelled it baff, but by segmenting words with AAS he can realize his mistakes and self correct. As noted he has not passed the speech portion on TH, but he now can segment and spell words with TH correctly. We also used color phonics at around you child's age and repeated a year later, but that did not seem to help one bit. Wishing you the best - I do believe with the proper guidance you can use material and help your child at home.
  17. Carol, sarcastic much.. can see why your Blog is pending: "Guidance from your Pastor"
  18. "Whatever you say" We were told when she was going to put the names on the shirt and she was told and agreed to put initials on his - then at the 1st game when she brought the shirts she had did as she pleased. Point being she did not make the shirt we payed for the way she had agreed to. The way my family wanted it!
  19. ChocolateReign, It is accurate for a t- shirt that he is going to be wearing out and about. Besides he does not wear his hockey jersey outside the rink. Don't have time for drama, but the phone call will be made tomorrow because we would like to know the rules, since I am the team parent and my husband is an asst. coach. As far as me saying anything to her about it - don't plan to - she knows she overstepped by not abiding by my husbands wishes. The head coach even said he would get our son a different t-shirt, but we said that it was okay we would fix it so we did. All in calm voices not stated in front of any other team members. We plan for the kids to have a great ball season and so far they have won the 1st 2 games and all is good.
  20. ChocolareReign, Yes, it is the rule and hockey jerseys are only worn in the rink. Where as ds likes to wear his baseball t- shirt everywhere and at his age he is not always with us.
