  1. Thank you - everyone has such great ideas. I love looking at them all and trying to decide what would work best with our ds. ;) Blessings Lisa :D
  2. Could you please tell me what does SOTW stand for? Thanks Lisa:) Margarete, Thank you for leading me to your blog - I love it!! What beautiful work your family does - your lapbooks are awesome - Thank you for sharing. Blessings Lisa

  4. Thank you everyone for all the wonderful replies. We live in MO so we do not have any guidelines. I have thought about Apologia, but it seems too old for him? We have Exploring Creation with Astronomy. So I asked my son what he would like to study in science - he said plants(which we are dong right now) and for Hist. he said war - I have tried to find War books on his level and have read him quite a few from the library( it has been a challenge because he is 6), but have failed to find a lapbook. Did find some copy work, but he is not so much into writting. Any thoughts? :)Thanks Lisa
  5. We read 5 days a week min. - he reads to me from his R&S reader and workbooks and I read to him whatever books he wants. Then we also take turns when he reads outloud in different books - like Dick and Jane, 1st. grade readers, etc. This makes it fun and we work on expressions when we take turns reading. Blessings Lisa wife for 23 yrs. to Guy mother to dd18 and ds6
  6. Being new to lapbooking - I was wondering if anyone uses lapbooks for Science and History as core learning and not just supplement? And if so is there an order or list on what should be taught for a 2nd grader? If not how do you know what to teach and when? Thank you:) Lisa wife of 23 yrs.to Guy dd 18 W.W.University ds 6 R&S Phonics/Reading/Music,Abeka Health/Science/History,Peterson Handwriting, Lapbooking for fun:auto:
  7. Would say you have a good heart and are finding it hard to say to this man - No - while he may not be a bad person and maybe he has had a hard life with one of his own children passing(you can feel for him without taking the chance with your child) - It is very scarry to think this man had the nerve to just walk out of the building with your child. One would think that he would now leave your family alone after your husband had to go get her from him, but if he does not please do not allow him to hold her - just tell him sorry I feel more comfortable keeping her with me. He should get the hint. You need to give your family more time to get to know this man and if he is a good person he will understand. Blessings Lisa wife of 23 yrs. to Guy - mother to dd18 and ds6
  8. We are R&S phonics/reading fans! Our son has done well with them and enjoys that he knows what to do when he opens his workbooks. They teach them early on how to read the directions. :auto: Of course it is a plain no frills program but does a good job and does not cost much. Blessings Lisa wife of 23 years to Guy and mother to dd18 and ds6:)
  9. I vote that he does seek her fathers permission. Having a teenage daughter (18) - we were very pleased that a young man whom wanted to get to know our daughter talked to her father and asked permission to come to our home - be with our family and get to know her better. They both respect our courting guildlines and we enjoy their company.:) Hope this helps. Blessings Lisa
  10. Our vote would be Guines pig - we have had all but loved our Guinea pig the best - they have personality  Blessings Lisa
  11. We use the Scholastic series if your child can read they will be able to do these on their own. We have done grade 1 and bought grade 2 for next year. Scholastic is all map skills. Lisa:D
  12. Just a thought another thing we do is lapbooks - we find them to be fun!! Blessings Lisa;)
  13. For the past two years we have used Scholastic Sucess With Maps and Map Skills for Today. Along with Abeka History Reader. We plan to use them again this comming year. Our son loves them and has learned from them. We feel they have given him a good start on maps, USA/the world around us and leaves us plenty of time to focus on reading/phonics and math. Blessings Lisa wife to Guy - mother to dd18 and ds6
  14. We have used the Sarah Crain plan book for 10 years - I love it ! blessings Lisa wife to Guy, mother to dd18 and ds6
  15. Our ds took Algebra in 8th grade, geometry in 9th and struggled with Algebra 2 in 10th - Than received an A in college Algebra. So I think it depends on the child. :) Blessings Lisa wife to Guy, mother to DS 18and dd 6 :auto:
  16. Well my husband and I just had this discussion at the dinner table. Our dd at times did complain, but she never wanted to go to school. We feel the key is trying to find out what is their style of learning - did I try and make her subjects fit with her style of learning - yes. She is an avid reader so all subjects except math revolved around reading.(she now attends a private university and is on the daens list) Now with our ds we are just learning - we have switched several times our thoughts on how he learns and part of it has to do with he is young and changing himself. He does do some workbooks for reading/phonics and math and sometimes I do the writing for him(pick your battles) he does not care to write. But bottom line we feel if you keep them home they have to learn and learning is not always fun because learning is sometimes hard. So what does your daughter like best? What type of learning do you see her responding to and is learning the most from? :) Blessings Lisa wife of Guy, mother to dd18 and ds6
  17. Our daughter used Algebra 2 teaching textbook because she was not able to understand the traditional book. She enjoyed it and learned through it. We beleive it to be a wonderful program and worth the money. We plan to use it with our son as soon as his grade level becomes avaible. Lisa dd 18 college ds 6 R&S reading/phonics, math, Abeka Hist. 1, Science 2, Health 1, Art 2, lapbooking for fun !
