  1. eBay is so easy for me to use, but recently I've had really hit or miss success selling. I am starting to think that "regular" people aren't using it as much. I have had 6 auctions going during the past week: 2 have sold (for bare minimum -- no bidding wars like the good old days); 2 have re-listed; 2 I've let end without re-listing. Granted, I've only posted about 20 auctions since 2003, so I'm no expert; however, I think (and it's just a feeling) that eBay seems to be more the domain of pros now -- not as many "clean out your closet" people like me anymore. When you see an auction lot of 250 items that are "new with tags", that probably isn't from someone's closet...that's someone going to outlet malls (most likely) buying up a bunch of stuff and re-selling it hoping for a profit. :iagree: This is what I have noticed and why I wanted people to give their opinion. It just does not look like people are buying. Thank you Lisa :)
  2. We have found it helps to stay away from round pencils. We try to look at the big picture - is their handwriting neat? Do they complain about hand cramping? Our son is a lefty and we have had so much trouble and with him it does seem that the correct hold, correct pencil flat sides, and paper tilt produce neater writing and less complaints. So we make sure he is doing it the correct way. Where our daughter who is also a lefty holds her pencil wrong does not have the right tilt of the paper , but never complained of hand cramping and her writing is good. So we let her write the way she felt confortable. :glare: Lisa DD 18 college DS 7 R&S Reading/Phonics - Math - English - Health, Abeka Hist. - Health - Art, Science Units made by mom, Building thinking skills level 1, SOTW 1. 3. Does anyone have a favorite site to sell on? How about your least favorite site to sell on? Thanks Lisa:)
  4. Ugg :banghead: this is the same thing that is happening with our 7 yo ds - stresses us out. The dentist said don't worry about it they will come out when they are ready and his big teeth will move into place. Well we don't have to much faith in that. So, finally Friday night we did get one baby tooth out. We wiggled for weeks. We also lightly rub a wet wash cloth over the gum in front of the tooth that you want to loosen up. The dentist where we lived before told us to do this with our daughter. It seems to help. :D Lisa
  5. Crimson Wife; Maybe it's time to "shelve" MUS and play some math games for a few weeks? :iagree: We play math games everyday - it just makes math more fun :) We don't necessary play the game that matches the math we are studying at the time. Today we played "In the Money" by Learning Resources(money) yesterday it was " Spaghetti and Math Balls" by CB Publishing (addition/subtraction),day before "Math Blasters" on the computer by Scholastic (I sit with ds during this time) you get the jest-we do own pretty many board and computer math games(which you don't have to buy games - I was just lucky that over the years we have found sales or someone has given us the games) but we also use cards, dice, unfix cube games, and we have made some math lap books that we enjoy revisiting. You could take a break and do a math lap book you dd would probably enjoy it! That being said we still do our daily math lesson along with the games. Lisa
  6. [ This is a very good reason for her to find ways to deal with grades now and not later! Once you get to law school she will be in classes mostly with other kids who also have always had fantastic grades. They entire school will be filled with very highly driven and smart people. Now, in order to actually give grades the schools will grade on a curve. This means that many of those very bright students will receive their very first "Bs," "Cs" and "Ds" in that first law school semester. It is DEVESTATING! Even those of us who didn't think we were "perfectionists" thought about dropping out at that point - and many did. As she goes on in life and progresses through the educational system, she will be in groups with smart hardworking people just like herself. She has to focus on doing what is humanly possible, doing her best, and letting the rest go. :) Thank you - this is something I never thought about. Why do they grade on a curve? Is it because everyone gets such bad grades everyone would fail if they didn't? Lisa
  7. 3) DON"T feed into it. Stay as nonchalant as possible. She needs you "there" but not "involved." You don't want to be part of the problem. :iagree: This works real well -thank you :001_smile: Lisa
  8. What you described sounds like a pre-K review in our school district. So maybe they are a school that is a year behind - which will be tough on your advanced child. Is there a special reason that you are not able to homeschool? Work out of the home, etc. Our daughter was in the same boat at school and to be honest even in the gifted classes she was bored to tears. With her high test scores they still would not put her up a grade. So by 4th grade when the teacher didn't know what to do with her so she kept sending her to the library for research we had enough and pulled her out to homeschool. Lisa
  9. Thank you for all the information. Will pass it to my friend. Lisa
  10. Thank you for the all the info. :001_smile: - I will pass it along. Blessings, Lisa
  11. Test panic - if underprepared and in panic mode, exercise is good. When calm, fill in the short term memory and then take steps to see that one is prepared for next time. Is the grading scheme such that a B on one test will sink a person for the semester? :iagree: very good advice - I do not think so because most of her classes or pretty balanced as far as quizes, bookwork, in class perticipation, and tests. Sometimes they will even let a student do extra credit. She just really needs to :chillpill:. Thanks Lisa
  12. Thank you AndyJoy for being kind and sharing your experience. It is nice to have a helpful response. To clarify things dd was tested gifted, years ago. And has always worked hard to achieve top grades in all subjects. She strides to be her very best at everything she does, not just school because she feels that is how life should roll. At school - she will finish in 3 years with a double major Technical English and Paralegal - then take her L Sats and go on to Law School. This is why she feels she must archive the highest grades she can. Besides keeping her scholarships which were received for her academic honors. We do feel meditation could help and she is checking into yoga - she does exercise three times a week and is active on the local fire department. She also is in the Law Fraternity and English Honors Fraternity where she holds positions and does have friendships. She has been with the same boyfriend for almost 3 years and they go to church bible studies together with plans to marry before she starts Law school. And as far as backing up her school work she does, but it was the paper that she was working on and her photos from her brothers birthday party this past week end that troubled her the most. By the way she already has finished the paper on the family computer, but we were told yesterday that it is the hard drive so don’t plan on recovering the photos. Blessings Lisa

  15. Daughter is 18 in college 2nd year(has pushed herself so hard that she will be a Jr. come winter break) she is already 1 year ahead of her pers. - on deans list all 1st year with stright A's. She is so stressed out this year because she might get a B in a class. Tonight she had a major melt down because she feels she is not going to do well on a test tomorrow. Then her computer broke - end of the world because she did not have all her work backed up. At times I just don't know how to deal with her giftedness. This is not a brag - I really would like some advice on how to help her destress. It breaks my heart to see her so upset. Thanks Lisa

  17. :hurray: Keep it up - you can do it! from what I have heard it takes aleast 1 month to adjust :) Lisa
  18. Did 1st grade phonics, reading & Math last year. We are doing 2nd grade now phonics, reading, math, and( English - our ds does not like to write so we do it orally and copy some pages then adjust directions). I almost made the mistake of not getting English because of his lack of writ ting but, so glad I did he loves it and really understands it - it is a wonderful program  Lisa dd 18 :smash: ds 7 :gnorsi:
  19. Keep track of hours. 1000 hrs per year - your choice start month - 600 hrs. core subjects 400 hrs. non-core subjects. Keep some samples of work. Have a good time with your children :) Lisa dd 18 college ds 7 R&S - English, Math, Reading, Phonics, Music, Abeka - Health, Art, Hist. SOTW 1, Science Units

  21. Last year during the school day I was confused about the Th sounds called them up they had a staff member/teacher call me back within 10 mins. and explain it to my son and I. After she went over it I really did not know why I was confused :tongue_smilie: Guess I was spacing again  Anyway I was sold from then on - great service/great material :) Lisa
  22. You could try the Draw-Write-Now books - they are a drawing and handwriting course. Our 6 yr. old ds loves them started using them because he dislikes writing, but loves to draw. Also stock up on games for spelling and other subjects (I love how R&S math is taught, but don't care much for the repetitiveness of problems so we do some of the work sheet then I put a big X on the page and write played math game - he loves it!) - that is why you home school so you can fit your dds needs in a way that complements her learning style. :) Lisa DD 18 my stresser  DS 6 my silly boy:smilielol5:
  23. Colleges look at ACT, SAT or what test score that they may give you. As far as transcript we did part University of MO and home school so my dd's transcript read home school Algebra 2 ( not teaching textbooks Algebra 2) And this was done by the University of MO. The college never questioned what her home school class books were. So that said I think you would be fine to put - 9th grade English on his transcript and use what ever you choose.(personally I would not jump ahead) As long as you feel he is learning - don't see what difference it makes :) Also, I believe R&S only goes to English 10 so you are right on track for 4 years of English. :hurray: Lisa
